Coronation Street too violent

Does anyone else find the recent violent scenes leading to the demise of the character Charlie very disturbing, upsetting and unnecessary? Corrie has great writers and dialogue and was one of my favourite soaps, but the scenes where the character Charlie attacked the character Peter, and then the very far fetched, surreal and violent scenes leading up to the exit of that character of Charlie really put me off watching. In fact, I have not seen the programme at all this week, I just didn't have the same anticipation of enjoying the programme . . .

I do agree, but sometimes they show this kind of thing for people who maybe suffering in their own lives with the same situation and are not quite sure what help they can get.
Plus sometimes they have to liven it up to keep all viewers interested.

Thank you for replying. Yes, I agree that sometimes the situations mirror those of the viewer, but I feel there are enough fly on the wall documentaries and rather harrowing films and pure entertainment seems to be a very rare commodity, which is rather a shame. I think they could have livened things up without having shown some of the scenes, but I know that some people actually watched those episodes especially to catch them! I am hoping they will return to the clever scripting soon and leave the casualties to the Bill etc.

Thanks for that Gabs. Yes it IS life, unfortunately and the value of life is growing less which is very sad. I just feel that there are enough life crises without all the gratuitous nastiness that was shown in the Street recently. I must confess I watch soaps to be entertained and I love the dry nastiness of Blance and Norris who have me in stitches when they are on form.
As to Eastenders, each to their own and hopefully that will return to high entertainment again and I shall be able to watch it with both eyes open :-)

Coronation street has always been a comedy show as is Eastenders, I have to admit I liked Charlie, I know he was bad but he was the only bit of talentt on there with his crooked smile. He was fun too, I haven't watched it since, not on purpose I often don't watch for weeks at a time, it's so easy to catch up.
The worst bit was when tracey did that stupid trick with her hand, did anyonce check? if a knife passed through her hand there'd be far more blood nad pain going on, really pathetic.

Thank you for that, Rainbow! I agree Charlie was good looking and have you noticed, they ALWAYS make the best looking ones into nasty characters! Not fair!
I didn't like any of the scenes leading to that situation, as you so rightly say, Coronation Street is supposed to be light entertainment!
They do say a new handsome man is coming into the Street soon, so it may be worth you having a second look later in the year lol.

Wow, this is so interesting!! I didn't know Charlie was gonna die. I'm currently waiting for Mike Baldwin to die :-( .... SO sad about that, I have always liked his character. We in New Zealand are 11 months behind UK, and a business colleage told me he was gonna die.
but Charlie! wow.... here at the moment we are just up to the place where Tracey is trying to trick Charlie into believing she is pregnant so she can sink her hooks more deeply into him.
Maybe I'd better stay away from these discussions or I'll learn too much;-)

Thank you very much for replying. You probably watched it on a normal night when it is harmless. The Street is normally very nice, easy viewing, and I am glad you were able to enjoy it. Hopefully after this current flare up they will return to nice witty story lines and you will be able to catch the programme again on a dry and harmless night :-)
