My son, CJ is 8 years old with high-functioning Autism. I signed him up last year for Special Olympics and at his first competition, which was for Bowling, he received a 6th (last) place ribbon. Last Saturday Mark and I took him to his second competition, Individual Basketball Skills.
He won a Gold Medal..! I'm so excited for him. He was so proud and we got good film. We're taking him to the State competition in March.
Any stories you'd like to share on the Special Olympics?

I may not have any stories to share on the Special Olympics, but I did want to say how happy I am for your son. This great! May God bless you and your son.

Tell cj congratulations from me. I will hear tomorrow how my ladies did. On weekend work days I have eight people I check on, several of them were looking forward to basketball today. It is so much fun. I used to drive school bus for some of these functions. It was funny. One of the young male adults attended our church. I sing in choir. After hauling him for two events, suddenly he noticed me on the platform. You could see him lean over and read his lips as he told his aunt "There's my bus driver"

Thanks, rainbow. You are so right; I don't care what anyone thinks, if they can't deal then it's their problem. Before I had CJ I was embarrassed a bit and felt to sad for these children, but now I love them all. They have more love in their hearts than anyone else in the entire world.

Wow! That is such an accomplishment! I hadn't thought about putting my son into Special Olympics. I am going to have to look in to if it is avaialble here. I am sure it would do wonders for my son's self esteem.
Congrats!!

Thank you very much...Definitely check it out; here in Illinois the child has to be 7 or 8 in order to start competing. You fill out an application and it's good for 2 years. I'm sure Canada would have it and you can talk to the school about it. Let me know how it goes.

That's for sure. I'm now trying to get CJ to do the back homework he has right now from being home sick. I will probably keep him home rest of week but then he's going to have more make-up work to do.
He does pretty good with it but I have to be really patient with him while we're doing it. So, yes, it seems like it's a never-ending story...just as things start to settle down something else pops up..!
