Reading recipe books are good things to start with if you really want to learn how to cook. But the best weapon that you must possess to be able to cook good dishes is a set of good tastebuds. Knowing the taste of certain ingredients help us imagine how a food would taste once these are blended together. A little imagination is all it takes to make food presentation palatable. Good luck.

Sometimes, cook books are not a practical way of learning cooking. Whever I am inside a bookstore, i try to figure out what's the latest cookbook but other cookbooks were very detailed that it turns into too boring to read. I can hardly understand some of the ingredients. Are they available in grocery store? It seems unfamiliar. That decides me not to buy the book. It would be necessary to have cooking lessons. That's my plan whenever I get enough time for myself. To enroll cooking.

I would certainly recommend getting a good cooking book or encyclopaedia of cooking to help you learn the base recipes and how to prepare food, as well as to learn the 'hard' recipes. Jamie Oliver has some good cook books out depending on what style of food you want to cook. Rick Stein is good for fish recipes. Good luck with it, cooking can be great fun and very rewarding as a hobby.
