Would you stop and help people when you see an accident?

I had a lady in a supermarket skid across a wet floor without a warning sign and crash into a can goods display, sending it down on top of her. Everyone, including employees, ran for the exit, while I bent over to make sure the moaning woman didnt try to get up. She had bruises all over her face and I thought she broke her leg (she did). I stayed with her until the ambulance left and the police had me write a witness report. I never returned to that store since then.

Yes, I would. I can't believe the employees and everyone else ran for the exit. Did they think it was a bomb or something. I can't just leave someone that is hurt, unless they are already receiving help. I can't believe that the employees did not help. I don't think that I would return to the store either.

I later found out the employees were told under no circumstances to "witness" any customer accidents so they couldnt be part of a lawsuit against the store (and their job) if it came to that. Thats why I didnt return to the store. The chain is out of business today - it was called 'BIG BEAR'.

Wow, that's pretty pathetic! Companies like that, maybe they deserve to go out of business, if that's the way they treat their customers.
Yes, I would help people in an accident. You hear stories about people who don't stop, I would want to make sure that the injured people had someone helping them.

it is really sad to here that the store had such an attitude. in fact the store should have a policy designed as to what should be done in the case of an accident and not run away from it. anyway the store would have been in trouble for not putting up the wet floor sign and also for not helping the lady

I think you did the right thing. I don't blame you for not wanting to return to that story again. I would have reported the store for that. I have helped people in accidents before in any way I could, from being there with my phone when they needed a call, to jumping in and stopping my neighbour's murder, a couple of years ago. I can't believe people who turn and run. What possible reason could they have for this?

I'd probaly help somebody if I seen an accident, unless of course I worked there, I'd probaly run and start laughing just because in some cases, it would be hilarious.

Good for you. I see som many people turn a blind eye to someone in need and it makes me very irritated especially when it happens in a store like that and the store employees don't help. I have had my share of that happening and it makes me wonder about people in general. I am sure that woman was grateful for all your assistance. Too bad more people aren't trying to be helpful when others are in need.

Yes, the customers made themselves scarce, too, that what I thought was funny. They just didnt want to get involved. One older couple waited for me outside the store and thanked me for helping her. The lady said she had fainted seeing some blood on tnhe floor and her husband brought her out there for air. She said she was so ashamed of herself for letting me be alone helping. I shook their hands and told them all was well.

It has happened to me twice. The first time I stopped. BIG mistake. I was there for hours with the cops questioning me and all. I am not medically trained and therefore could not help anyone who was hurt.
The second time I did what was right. I used my cell phone (ear piece, don't use Cell Phones in cars people!) to call the cops let them know what happened and that some teens had just wrapped a car around a telephone pole.

I'm sorry, just because you are not medically trained gives you an excuse not to help someone. And I am VERY sorry you felt you wasted your time because it took hours to complete an accident report. Next time you called it in and continued on your way. That makes you feel like a hero, huh? What if your simple presense and verbal reassurances to those teenagers that help was there or coming might have prevented further shock within them and less panic or pain? But then, THIS TIME you got where you were going on time, didnt you?

I guess those who ran out were not sure of the cause of th incidence. As such they want to run to safe their dear life. Possible if you only hear the noise of the accident and did not see the person involved or what really happened, you will also want to run. For me i would want to make sure I am safe first so i can help others.
