Good question ssh. I really dont believe a mother to be should increase the quantity. She should watch out for quality food with a lot of nutrients. As I have heard, the baby will take the nutrients from the mother whether the mother consumes good food or not. In that way the mother loses a lot of strength. TO get that only the mother should watch her diat. I have seen mother lose their hair after child birth cos she has not taken necessary supplements. When I was pregnant with my second kid, I had a severe pain in my arm. When we went to see the doctor, he said that is because the baby is taking my minerals and calcium and since I am not taking any, I get such pains. Its very good to start this type of conversation, you can learn about different things. Thanks.

Actualy from everything I have read a pregnant women should really be eating for one and a half.
A women only needs to eat between 300-500 extra calories while pregnant. Durring the first trimester you do not even need to eat anything more. Cravings are the reason many women eat much more then they need.
However it is the one timein life women can eat and get away with not worrying about their weight so if their doctor is happy with their weight gain who are we to say what is right and what is not.

I truly feel that this is one of those Old Wives Tales or something along those lines. When you are pregnant you need to heat HEALTHY not OVEREAT. And eating for two people would most likely fall into the category of over eating.

I was told that you eat when your hungry and even then only eat until you are satisfied. I was also told to make sure that most of my snacking was on fruits and vegetables. Did you know that when pregnant with a boy women tend to eat more than if pregnant with a girl.

no you really should only eat small amounts of food at a time that will be plenty or eat a big breakfast and snack in between meals.

Well when I was pregnant my doctor said that I shouldn't eat for two. He told me that I should eat healthy nutricious meals. At times I felt like I wanted to eat for two but I didn't. You should take care of the baby inside of you by eating healthy foods.

Pregnant women need to increase their calories to provide nutrients to the baby, but I think the term "eating for two" is taken too literally.
