Have you ever had a great discussion going, and then saw that someone else started the same discussion after you? Do you think that is more laziness or selfishness? Do you think those people can succeed on mylot.com in the long run?
Also, I've seen people copy other people's reply and post it for themselves, on the SAME discussion!!!
There are a lot of positive things most people do on mylot.com, but there are also a few bums. However, I really think they will leave soon because they are just interested in making big money the easy way .. you know, by cheating and stealing.
Do you agree with me, or disagree? Can you give some examples of this stuff that you've seen here?

Use the little orange exclamation point (!) next to the + and - to report those creeps.

Actually, that isn't what I'm talking about. If you come up with your own version of a topic and then later find another similar topic already existed, no harm, no foul. But, if someone copies a discussion topic, you can know it .. just look at the wording, and then look at the quality of their other discussions!

you're right. there are times we have the same topics posted but that doesn't mean one of us cheated. I wrote a lengthy piece about Lisa Nowak only to find out later that some other member got the same topic, only a little shorter and single track-minded.

YES! I am beginning to see more and more of this as we grow. I don't know if the people are lazy or not. I have noticed that people from other countries will look at my discussions and any of them that has received a lot of responses they will copy! It could be they think they will receive a lot of responses and will make more money in doing so. What gets me is if they want to imitate me they should at least change the Title and the wording. LOL
I get a lot of responses because I have a very GOOD friend base, I support them and they support me. I have even done discussions on this topic so others would get a clue.
It did not bother me when I was a newbie, but now it is irritating me to no end. I have worked very hard to build my supportive friend base and get my discussions recognized. I wish people could just do their own thing and let others be.
I have run across several of my own discussions on some my friends discussion pages. This is so bold. I would probably never recognize it if it was on just anybodies page. I have just enough time to work my friends discussions so I never really see what else is going on. You can imagine my surprise when one of my friends has copied my discussions!

That would be irritating .. now after some of the responses to this discussion, I think I need to be more careful and check before I start a new discussion, to make sure I'm not doing something someone else already has as an active discussion. However, since my thoughts are original .. at least the way I express them are, I'm not too concerned about having accidently used the same topic idea, but from another perspective. It would be embarrassing to find too much similarity. But, direct copying??????? No excuse.

This is non productive action! Copying is not encouraged and when you see some of that activity use the ! button and tell then what the person is up to! The investigate and remove that persons posts. That seems to nip it in the bud. Short cuts are the motive there and I guess also if their command of English is short then they feel the need to do this activity. Still can't be tolerated. Had the same thing happen in one of my discussions where the person copied a response from 2 responses up and so clearly too. I reported it and MyLot took care of it. As to them leaving unless we report then then they may stick around to stick the pot so to speak. Good luck with this and we shall be vigilant to the occurance!!

OK .. I'll remember that .. in the case where the mylotian copied another's response, I posted to him/her that copying like that was going to cause them problems .. but, in the future I'll just report them.
It is easy to accidently copy certain discussion topics without knowing it .. but, one can also see if the other person used your wording, or if they usually do that quality of topics. There are certain conditions here in mylot.com that make it easy for certain topics to duplicate and duplicate and duplicate!
For instance, the issue of the family put off the plane because of the child's tantrum. I heard that on the news and started a discussion .. others did too .. so, that was not copying. The wording and perspective was different in each case.

I don't know why people always try to find a way to cheat for money. I think that's the main reason that people do it.
I found a few times now when I've gone back to see if someone made a comment on my response, that someone has copied and pasted my response as theirs right after me... the nerve.
Any way it bugs me too. I did something bad accidentally last week. I just realized it earlier today. I started a discussion a week ago. Then I started the same discussion 3 days later. Now I see what happened, 4 days ago when I re posted it. I was going back and forth between mylot and payposter. It was really late and I think I meant to post it in payposter not again in mylot..hehe What an idiot I am. When I saw them both together today I just stared at it thinking somone copied it...lol Oh boy.

Yes, it is "nervy" .. sad situation. If a person has no original thoughts, do they really expect to be paid for that?

The first thought that came to me was, most probably, the person found your discussion very interesting he wants to hear others opinion about it. But when you mentioned about people copying someone else's reply and post that as his own, that's absurd! I'm still new here thus, I haven't encountered that as yet.

Actually, there is another reason why people would copy a discussion that is already active on mylot.com .. but, I'll only tell you via private message. As for copying others' posts, I have seen it happen. I have a discussion where one person copied the answer of a person just one page before and posted it as their own!

when i was a new member here in mylot, i was upset whenever my discussions got no response at all. but got surprised that the following day, someone posted the same discussion (word for word) i started the day before and got lots of responses. i feel so bad. but i kept on going. back then, (5 months ago), there's no such things as we can rate discussions and responses. so, i just keep my confidence high believing that i can make it through. and yes, i surely am doing good now. even better.
people who copy paste are just up for the money. and if they hear some new forum sites who will pay as well, they will surely leave this site. which is good for us. people like them don't deserve to be in this healthy site.

When people get more responses, it is usually because they have lots of friends on their friends
list. So, someone evidently took your discussion and started their own, and their friends responded to it.

Well, if they can't spell on all their other discussions, and suddenly they have a discussion which is exactly like someone' else's and the spelling IS correct, then, DUH! And they think noone will notice? ROFLOL

that's the point. there will always be black sheeps everywhere. and that no matter hard we try to get rid of them, they are still there. but well, i do believe that the creative people are only the ones growing emotionally and mentally here. copy pasters are just a waste byproduct.

Any kind of a response which seems to defend copying, such as saying "it's normal", causes me to wonder if that person copies. Copying is stealing. It is WRONG. We should let people know it is wrong, and report them. If we have a society that tolerates stealing (even stealing someone's writings), then we have a sick society where no one can believe anyone else.

I'll do you one better.
I posted a discussion and someone, in a response, just *copied part of my post* and that was it. They just posted my own writing! In the same post! I've never seen anything more lazy and stupid in my life. Well, I have, but never here on Mylot. I still can't get over it to this day.

Well, it is not in my situation. If someone posted exactly what you wrote from A-Z, it is a plagiarism. It is a different thing! But in my situation, I started the same title of discussion which I didn't know someone else had already posted it. The entire body of my discussion was entirely different.

I saw some same discussions going on & thought the way you are thinking. But something happened with me which changed my thinking. I thought of starting a topic, 'What are your hobbies?' & I searched if same topic already existed because it was very common topic, but there was no such topic here according to the search at that time. So I started the topic & within few hours I saw two same topics. Also I saw that one of them was older than mine & the other new one. Then I felt that if somebody sees the older topic & then mine, he/she would definitely think its I have cheated from that topic, but whats reality that I only know. So now I can say if a topic is doing good & others also start the same topic, its not neccessary that they have cheated. It can be possible that its their original thinking too.

The more general the topic is, the greater the possibility of starting a discussion that others have already started. But, when we read the way the discussion is written, we can tell if it is a duplicate of someone else's. If there is a hot news topic, it is very possible that several people will start discussions about that news item within a couple of hours of each other. However, if one person COPIES someone else's discussion, it should be punished.

There are people really who are lazy and they dont just exert their efforts to do the best own therir own way and they just go on copying discussion its really bad that they earn out it, i dont know why our mylot.com permitted this kind of individualto earn for their piracy publication.
It was really unfair for those who makers and just photocopied by anybody...

This is such a vast community that the people may post the similar discussions simultaneously. But if someone copies and pastes the discussion of the other member it is not fair.
The admin should have a system to identify such members and discourage such people.

Hmmm.....I have lots of them !! i have seen lots of incidents where the people simply copy a hot going discussion or a good reply as it is
I think that is a very wrong attitude and i personally post those replies as negative i simply dont give a damn to them..
i have seen even in the discussion i post that people just copy someone else's response and post it again in the same topic...They think they can earn money this way but thanks to my lot nowadays they still have tio type it all over again at least until they reach 500 posts
Mylot has been very strict to it and if we find exactly same response i thin we should report them as abuse

Yes, i agree with u that many people copy the replies and discussions for their own benefit.I f u come across such people just tell mylot about it as copycats are not allowed in mylot. Here opinion of the person is wanted. Its not truly selfishness if u search and then reply but copying others material can be.
