The News Is Depressing!

Everyday I listen to the news on the radio and I become more depressed with the state of our planet. If it is not war, it is global warming etc. I stopped watching TV news long ago because the images would occasionally stress me out. Do you think that living in the information age has greatly contributed to people's depression, and stress, reading and seeing all the awfulness going on around our world? Is ignorance sometimes truly bliss?

I do believe it cases a lot of the depression and stress. Especially in the older people. My grandma sits in front of the tv and gets so upset over things. It is bad enough for us, but they really have a time with it. It is sad. It would be good to hear something good when you turn on the tv.

Ive posted a discussion similar to this in the past, and agree with you completely. I too have stopped watching the news. I think not only is it depressing, but it gives too much information allowing other countries to know our weaknesses. If there was no wars, fire, murder etc. there would be no news I guess. Its sad but true. Good luck.

Yes I agree that now a days news are very depressing but maybe we need that for us to know what is really happening around us and for us to avoid those bad things happening to other people.

well friend you are very sensitive.
u could do nothing, its the others(people around the world) who do it.
all people have to think about it.
dont get panic , hang around with friends and enjoy.

i have already undergone that stage what you are presently going through...even i also stopped watching television because of the same reason..but then later i realized that i was so seperate from all other people ...i started remaining alone...when we watch news its obvious that one can get depressed but the other way is we must all learn from this ..we come to know about this world and moreover we think how we can stop it...later on when we grow up we will be aware about all this and can protect ourselves and our society from all wats happening around..
so dont get depressed and just think how can you stop it

well its nice to see and environmentalist here! yuh the new does get rather depresseing . all that you can do is to try and help the planet. being depressed and sitting in a corner and wathcing doesnt help! i too want to save the planet (superman... yeah!!! lol). but hey the internet is wide and huge full of information. just search and join a community with like minded people and then feel happy!

When it is surely a fact that u have stay informed about things going on around u, the extent to which the news is detailed on and the graphical details they go into are distressing for sure

Yes...i accept your views...The attitude tv programs are to get profit and earn more by this...they must not consider the public reaction from the action done by themselves....

Avoiding from the problem wont solve it. In fact you need to watch the news regularly to keep you updated how to improve things. That way you can contribute as little as possible for the improvement of the planet. Remember drops of water only constitutes an ocean.
