What would you do if you won a lot of money in the Lottery?

I guess we've all thought about this sometime. So tell me what would you do if you won the Lottery - say about £2million (that's about $3.5million I think!) - but enough money never to have to work again. Personally, after I had paid off my mortgage and invested some, I would set up a charity for sick, homeless and ill-treated animals. It is something that my Mother always wanted to do, so I would open it and call it after her and dedicate it to her memory. So tell me what would you do with all that money!

THe first thing I would do is pay off al my bills and buy a nice house. Then I would give some to me family and my husbands family. I would invest some to make sure it never ran out. I also like the idea of leaving money for people who are in need. I would probably find other ways to help other people who needed it.

The very first thing would be to start shoping for property and a house. Then, a decent vehicle. After all of that, fill the house and set aside some for trust funds for my future kids. I don't think I would quit working though. I would get bored and that money really wouldn't last all that long.

You know, I even considered the not working stunt, but I agree with you, after making a big purchase or two, the money sure wouldnt last long enough! And if you had no retirement account setup, it would be a pretty dumb choice, dont you think?

Please don't dream of the money because the dream which you have created doesn't comes true.... so i can't believe in wining a lottery and thinking of spending money in so and so.... it is a wastage of time......
So give up thinking to win a lottery and dedicate to your work....

What's wrong with dreaming? Boy, I feel sorry for you if you never dream about things. Must make for such a boring life.

If I would ever win the lottery I would make sure that everyone in my family had all of their bills paid off and then I would pay my bills off. From there I probably save the rest of it for retirement. That's a big dream though.

I would pay off my house - and buy another house in the Mountains - make sure my family and my husbands family was taken care of - and I too would open a shelter for homeless and abused animals, something I always wanted to do since I was a kid. I would also like to donate money to people anonymously, like for example if you knew someone who was having trouble making ends meet for whatever reason and you left them 1000.00 in their mailbox. Can you just imagine how wonderful that would be to be able to help people like that. Oh it's nice to dream.

So we have another animal shelter - that's great:-)) I love your idea about giving money anonymously too - yes it would be a nice feeling to do something for someone else who was really in need. Thanks for your answer.

Hi Freind.
After making sure my son and his family were well suited I would probably find someone like you who has won the same amount and we would start an animal shelter to look after animals that are neglected or with no homes.
You can look after the cats and I'll look after the dogs!
I mean it Rosie!
My wife and I have always said we would do this.

Wow - I can hardly believe this - that you and your wife have the same ambition - for the animal shelter. It is amazing how people think alike sometimes. Thanks for your answer - and don't forget to do your Lottery numbers for tomorrow night!

First thing I'd do is get my own place, well away from here! I would then treat my mum and dad to any holiday to any destination of their choice, mum has also wanted to go on the Orient Express I would pay for the tickets and take her. I would also fund holidays to Cyprus in a five star hotel. Plan my trip to Sweden, a country I would love to go to but can't afford and buy myself a jeep. I would then invest the rest. Oh if only..... sighs heavily

I'd love to be able to buy my own house, share money with family to help them out, put money away for my retirement and for my children. Then I would love to give to charities. It would feel so good to be able to help people out. I would love to be able to just go around and do random acts of kindness.

Wow! That's a lot of money. I'd probably donate at least 10% of the money for the charity. I'd like to buy a franchise of McDonalds. Then I would like to have 3 house built, one for my parents, the other for my brother, and the last one is for me. Then the rest I'll put it in the bank. Money is really a problem. Having no money is a headache, having lots of money and thinking what to do with them is also a headache.

Winning the lottery is not something that a lot of us will be able to do anytime in the neat future, and that's probably a good thing. A decade after the average person win's the lottery, they're bankrupt. People start spending uncontrollably and think they have all the money in the world, when often times the amount of money they won is not much at all. When the average person wins the lottery, they buy a whole bunch of stuff they don't need, fancy cards, nice houses, and the like. If you were suddenly blessed with a million dollars, would you just blow it away like most lottery winners do, or would you be wise with it?
Most of us would like to be wise with our money in the event that we were blessed greatly with a large sum of money, but if we were to get a bunch of money, what would you even do with it? Let's pretend that you are blessed with one million dollars, what should you do with it?
First and foremost, if you are a Christian, you should give 10 percent of the million to the local church. God commands we Christians to give a tithe to the church, and we should do that. If this is to happen, you should call up the church's business manager and have a meeting with him or her. Be sure to let them know that you want this to be absolutely confidential, because people will treat you different if they know you have that much money. This will probably be a great blessing for a lot of churches as well, but keep it anonymous!
Secondly, you'll want to pay off any debts that you have. You might have a home mortgage, a credit card, a car payment, just go ahead and get rid of those as soon as you can. They're not worth your time any more now that you actually have some money! Let's say that all of your debt combined including your house adds up to $200,000, so we've spent $300,000 so far.
After you tithe and pay off your debt, let's save some money. If you have children fund their college education, and otherwise save money for retirement. You should probably save at least half of your million for this. If you save $500,000 in good mutual funds for 25 years, you'll have 8.5 million dollars to retire on. That's more than enough!
We've got $200,000 left to work with. You can give $100,000 of this away to your favorite charity, because if you are blessed, you should be able to bless others. Be sure to pick out a good charity too, one that has very low overhead. Finally, it's okay to have fun with some of your money, but keep it reasonable. Feel free to spend $100,000 of it on anything you'd like, have fun with it!

What lovely sentiments - to think of helping others before yourself. Thanks for taking part in the discussion.

I would make sure that my family was well taken care of first and then I would go grab some homeless people and get them off the street. Then, I would invest some of it so my husband could stay home isntead of working his rearend off every day. I would even buy someone something to eat or stock their home with food or give them gift cards so they could go buy what ever they want.
