I'm planning a 2 week trip to Bulgaria this summer (July or August). I would like to stay near a beach for the relaxation and have day or short stay trips to other places, e.g. Sofia.
Are you Bulgarian or visited Bulgaria? Where would you recommend I stay? What places must I visit?
Thanks

I have never been to Bulgaria. If you want you could buy a book about Bulgaria and you will get some information about the country.

Thanks, but books only tell you one opinion, from the author and they invariably miss the little gems. Plus, they don't have useful opinions necessarily.

I went to Bulgaria years ago when it was stll a communist state.
It is an interesting country and we stayed at Golden Sands. Although I am sure it is alot different now and maybe more commercial. The majority of holiday makers were Russian and it was a real insight into how people lived through communism. Not one McDonalds was there then!!!
Nessebar was a very interesting old town.
I hope you have a great time.
I hope it has not been spolied through commerialism.

hi there - sorry - I've just joined the mylot.com and I think now is little late for answering - but nevertheless - if you want a calm stay - go to Ahtopol on the south coast; if you want to visit discos, enjoy extra night life - go to Sunny Beach - you'll be only 10 mintes away from the international world heritage - the old town of Nessebar. Or if you like nice nature, one of the best destinations is Kavarna and Kaliakra cape. For more information, you may visit a web page I've found - with plenty of good information about Bulgaria- www.the-bulgarian-insider.com! good luck!

Sofia is one of the most unfriendly places in Bulgaria - just a big city with lots of nervous people and dirty streets. You'd better visit the Black sea coast - Varna, Burgas, Nesebar, Sozopol and so on. Also one may find interesting places like Veliko Turnovo, Etura, Rodopi mountain, Kazanlak and many more.
