what is the chances of having with colon cancer?

my father has a colon cancer and it is in the stage III. He is too thin and weak. My two uncle are died because of this deadly sick. now i did not know if you have a cancer you are already dead. I have heard that that there are survival of that sick, but in our case they were all dead and i get into a conclusions that having that kind of desease of sickness will automatically put you to the end of your life.
