What are your favorite Fantasy/Sci Fi books/series/author? I'm currently reading the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind for probably the millionth time and still loving it just as I always have. I do see that its something of a Wheel of Time rip off, which is another series I love, but its just such a fun story! My favorite authors in this genre are, in no specific order, Terry Goodkind, Robert Jordan, George R.R. Martin, Raymond Feist, and Terry Brooks.

Ahhh... my absolute favourite is A Song of Ice and Fire series by George RR Martin. *giggles* Ever notice that Terry Goodkind is a mix of Jordan and Tolkien, only with rape?

Hmmm, my favourite genre is definitely science fantasy all that sword and sorcery stuff. Favourite authors 1) David Eddings (Belgariad and Mallorian series) 2) JRR Tolkien (Lord of the Rings) 3) Stephen Donaldsen (Chronicles of Thomas Covenant) 4) Raymond Feist (Riftwar Saga) 5) Terry brooks (Shannara Series) These are by no means all the books I have read by these people but they are the most well known ones. I've never read Robert Jordan or Anne McCaffery but would like to. One of these days I also want to read the Harry Potter series.

For Sci-Fi it has to be the Dune Series by Frank Herbert. In Fantasy, I like J. V. Jones Book of Words trilogy. Art Carrejo

Anne McCaffery -- The Dragonriders of Pern. Anne McCaffery -- The Ship Who Sang Isaac Asimov, Piers Anthony And of course, Stephen King and Dean Koontz, although I consider them writers of horror, the library puts their books in the science fiction section.

You would probably like a couple of old school sci-fi fantasy writers that inspired all of those authors... Edgar Rice Burroughs is famed for writing Tarzan and he wrote something like 25-30 Tarzan Books. He was also a sci-fi writer as well. Amoung his sci-fi works is a series of books called the John Carter of Mars series and the first 3 together won him a Hugo award. He wrote over 100 different books including Chitty chitty bang bang. Another Author you should like is Robert E. Howard. He is famous for writing the Conan the Barbarian series of books. He did a few other fantasy books as well that were also pretty good.

Robert Jordan, Terry Brooks, and J.R.R. Tolkien are the three that I would say top this list.
