Mine is not only twice the normal weight (he's 21 pounds of lean muscle), he's virtually impossible to train. I've had dogs my whole life, and this one is the worst. Any tips?

I had a rat terrier, he was very smart. What have you tried using to train him? Do you use treats? What is his favorite thing to do? Ours was to "kill" a toy, so when he did what he was supposed to he got a toy to play with. Does he have a job? Terriers really need something to keep their minds busy or they will get into trouble. Cody, our rat terrier, was an excellent goat herder! He was also a watch dog, as soon as the goats would get where they weren't supposed to or stray dogs came around them he'd start barking and if they were out we'd tell him to go get them. He'd run around them to round them up and then he'd drive them back into their pen. But you could find many jobs for your dog to do. pick up stuff off the floor, bring you things, anything to keep his mind busy.

I love dogs too ... but never heard of rat terrier... can you please post some pictures with your dog. I am quite curios about this. And ... i had 3 dogs by now... and don't think that he is impossible to train. Every dog may be stuborn .. .but impossible to train ... i can't agree with you there... hope to see some pictures with your dog.

I posted pics to my profile (I'm not sure if I can do that in a posting, I'm new). He's similar to a Jack Russel with a doberman type face.
