Is he a technically good singer? No. I don't think so. I doubt that he has ever had vocal lessons and he is a little off pitch sometimes. He sounds like he strains his voice in some songs.
Is he a musical singer? And emotional singer? Nice to listen to? Of course. He puts so much soul and meaning into his songs, and that makes them wonderful to listen to, even if he isn't really the "best" singer or the next American Idol. He has something that is really a gift, and makes his voice something special.

Personally, I like Thom Yorke's style of singing. Radiohead are one of my favourite bands, and I love the emotion he puts into singing. His voice is gravelly, sometimes painful, and raw. For me, that embodies what Radiohead are about, and so his voice is perfect. Technically, however, he is not a brilliant singer. He is a little off on some notes, and his voice is not the best around.

You voiced my feelings exactly. I could listen to Thoms voice all day, not because it's pitch perfect or melodic but because it makes me feel something with each line. I'd rather someone sing with emotion and feeling and sing songs that are personal and have meaning than listen to the best singer in the world. Music isn't just about hearing a nice sound at least not for me.Some music is, a lot of pop music that's fun to dance to is good because you don't have to think you just bop around. Thom's voice is beautiful in that it's raw and real and allows you to be connected to the music in a powerful way.

I am feeling really not expert of music because I do not know who Thom Yorke is. I think that you are really expert.

what are you people responding to this discussion talking about? The range of this voice? The notes he hits? Maybe most of the replies are true about being off note. I just think he is the best. Does anyone like Neil Young? I heard Thom sing Heart of Gold and their voices are very similar.

i mean he's got songs where he can lay it down and straight up put you to sleep, and then he's got songs where you think your head is going to explode. i forget which version of morning bell it is, but every time i hear it, i cringe. and then there are songs like fake plastic trees and nice dream. chords of pure gold
