I'm not a christian and I have a very happy life -- I feel fulfilled and have also answered some of life's pressing questions to my satisfaction. The gospels contain many words of wisdom but in reality it's all just common sense. I'm sure there are many happy Muslims, Jews, Hindus and Hiatian Voodoo practitioners out there too. Oh, and athiests. :)

Being a Christian isn't just about being happy; it's about having a relationship with God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), and being right with Him. The only way to get to Heaven, and have eternal life, is by having a relationship with Jesus [Jesus answered, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6]To be a Christian you need to:
1. Admit that you're a sinner (we all are) and that you are in need of a savior.
2. Ask God to forgive your sins, and ask Jesus to come into your life.
3. Work on that relationship with God on a daily basis.
As a Christian, you're not guaranteed to be happy all the time, in fact trials and tribulation will come your way, but you are guaranteed a place in Heaven for all eternity; The other option is to live for all eternity in Hell and the lake of fire- God doesn't want to send you there, but He won't have any choice if you're not a Christian. God bless you, and please make the right decision; you never know when it might be too late.

I think that if we follow the teachings of Jesus that we will have a content life - not necessarily a happy life. There will still be ups and downs and disappointments, but I think that we can handle these better if we know that we have someone to help us get through them.
If we followed the teachings of Jesus, we would treat everyone around us with love and respect, help one another, and the world would be a much better place.
The greatest reward for following the teachings of Jesus is not in this life - but, in the afterlife!

It isnt the teachings of someone it is how you follow it
And there isnt any hard and fast rule to follow something you dont believe in.
Just believe in yourself, learn from your mistakes, have the right perception and there isnt any happiness that wont touch your feet

I think that for those that are Christian they are, but those of us out there that subscribe to another religeon find our own teachings to be beneficial to our lives and enrich our souls. Those who acknowledge their souls and live as the best people they can be are happy.
