Lonelyness...a reason for suicide?

I am just a 19 years old girl...but up until now I have met a lot of people who thought that suicide is a liberating way to start again...they just felt lonely...but it seems verry strange ... why suicide? isn't there another way? i mean...they had friends...but still a shadow of depression was noticeable...i want to ask why? because to my mind suicide is just another way to cheat life...it is a couardly way of ending a life that is worth living...
