Thanks for this response. I haven't seen Slumdog Millionnaire, but have read the novel on which it is based. It is Vikram Kapoor's Q and A. I don't know how much they have devaited from the original work, and how they have treated the plot, but it must be an interesting movie to watch. Many people seem to take the movie as a realistic one, but I remember that the novel was actually a spoof on the bollywood plots and the cultural representations of India - even as it tells the touching story of a boy raised in the slums and how he is capable of holding basic human values amidst hard times.

yes I saw it and it was touching,I really liked the seen when they fo for her shoes and find out that other girl's father was blind. I saw it last week only it was coming on star movies or HBO, I don't know which but I intend to go and see if I can get its cd anywhere here in India. I never caught the name of the movie just was fliping channels when I caught the scene of her shoe slipping in the drain and luckily watched the whole movie.

This is a wonderful movie about two siblings who have to share a pair of shoes briefly because they don't want their parents to find out that the elder sibling, Ali, has lost his younger sister's shoes. I've shown this movie to my elementary school students and expected them to gripe about it not being in English but they loved it and didn't mind reading the sbutitles. Children love this movie and it gives them a glimpse into another aspect of family life from a culture they would otherwise not likely be exposed to.
