How did your cat get it's name?

I've had some strange names for cats and I was curious as to what others named their cats, and how they came up with the names. Right now, my cat Lucky was named because my husband saved her life - so she's lucky to be alive. I've had cats named: Snow, Toby, Rascal, Tazz, Pumpkin. Hopefully I'll think of the rest later. So, tell me yours and how they got their names.

Fortunately, my cats came with their own names that the shelter assigned. I thought that the names were cute and kept them. However, my sister had been feeding a stray cat that kept visiting her lawn. Pretty soon, the cat allowed my sister to pet it. Soon after that, my sister had the cat in her house and named it Moochie because the cat seemed to be "mooching" off of her all of the time. My sister's vet said that Moochie was already spayed and was probably dumped by her owners.

That's sad that the owners got rid of the cat. Well, I guess it's better than some of the other ways people get rid of unwanted animals. Well, at least the cat is safe now.

And Moochie just loves her new home! She has her own little spot right next to my sister's computer and a little deck to sleep on right above it by the window. She's got a flat scratching post and the run of the house while my sister is home. Right now, my sister's two large dogs are getting used to the cat. One dog, Aries, doesn't mind the cat at all and is only concerned about finding her food and eating it, lol. And the other dog, Chloe, a husky mix, will chase Moochie sometimes, but she is getting used to the cat little by little.

I would say so. The other cats that I've had were strays that we took in, so we were saving them in a way. But, the way that Lucky was rally saved, has more meaning to us. I think we love her more because of it.

piggie my cat - Piggie the Cat
We named pig pen after one of our fave Peanuts gang characters. We call him piggie for short now. He was alldirty when we got him. He spent a night outside under a car and had grease on his nose and smelled. He cleaned up nicely. This was in around August when he was a little baby. He is now a big monster kitty and 10 months old and we named him good. He makes little pig grunting noises that are just so cute. Here is a picture I just took of him.

Thanks. I think it's funny that Piggie made a funny face for the camera too :) I remember posting pics when I had less than 500 points and never heard of the 500 point rule. I might have missed that someplace. but when you post on the left side it says add and image in blue a little ways across from the preview comment button :) I would love to see your cat.

How adorable! How do you get a picture there like that? I'd like to put one of my cat. I'm still pretty new around here.

I have a Bengal cat named "Bean." She was a cat without a home an wandered into the yard of a friend of my daughter. They were sitting in the screened in porch and the cat started climbing the screen wanting in to be fed. My daughter fed the cat some kidney beans from her meal and the cat liked them. My daughter brought the cat home and the kids had named the cat after the beans. We tried to find the owners but to no avail. I ended up with Bean and she is all of nine pounds and she walks around with her tail curled up.

I love cat and my cat named naughty. Because he is a very naughty boy. When I have my dinner, he usually come to my feet and drag my trousers, which means he is hungry too and he needs some feeding... So I call him naughty and I found that he is kind of satisfied with it..

My favorite kitty was Puff. I named him Mr. Cream Puff when we got him as an itty-bitty, because he looked like a cream puff. He was an orange tiger, but the orange part was more of a champagne color. Did you know that cats "grow into their ears"? So, if a kitten has bigger than usual ears, it will be a big cat when it is full grown .. the Veteranarian told me that about Puff when he was little .. he grew to 16 pounds.

That's news to me. I never knew that. I guess I always had cats with small ears, so I never realized the connection.

I named my female cat Caslon. This is the name of a type font. The name just fit her. My other cats are named: Cassidy, Carly, and Coco. I guess I definitely like the C names.

That's cool. I've never heard of Megan Slankard though. What kind of music is it? Just curious, as I'm a music lover.

I've got a cat named Lucky too and for the same reason. Except I saved her at birth. She was having trouble breathing so I held her with her head down and shook her a bit to drive any fluid out of her lungs. I then placed her with her head lower than her body and kept her warm. I was suprised that she lived. I have many cats so I won't go into all of them but I have one that is named snotface. I call her this because she had a cold and everytime I looked at her she had a snotface just like a little kid. I have another one I call big eyes. She was the tiniest of the kittens but she had the biggest eyes I have ever seen. And I have another one named cuddlebug and thats because he loves to cuddle with me. He doesn't like anyone else in the house but me. I'll just tell you the rest of the cats names without explanation....Prince,Tigger, Jesse, Mama kitty, Fluffernutter, Cutie Pie, Mr T, Shadow and Cuddles.

My cat's name is Raider as in 'He Who Raids' and he is a very good little thief. Especially when it comes to my hair ties, makeup, and pens.

That's cute. My sister's cat loves to go into her drawers and take her clothes out when she's not home, and then she places them by her food and water. Now when my sister comes home, she has to be the first one through the door so no one sees that the cat did (in case her bras/undies were there).

Years ago I had a cat. It was an Ambyssian. It had golden fur. I thought she was pretty. So I named her "Lan Lan". It is a Chinese word, it means "beauty".

I have a Rio, more from the Duran Duran song "Rio." I don't know, she just looked like a Rio to me.... She's a beautiful, long haired tortie. She's mostly brown with a beautiful light colored "blaze" on her nose.

Lets see, I named Oliver that because he was an orphan kitten - he was a week old when he was found. He's my #2 son - I'll get to #1 later. I named Solo because he was the only kitten his mom had (found her a new home but called her Cappie because I found her outside a nursing home called "Capital City..." something. Most of my friends think I named Solo after either the UNCLE or the Star Wars characters, but no, because he was an only child. I had to pay for his mom's c-section so I call him my "grandson." Ronnie is short for Chevron, the gas station we rescued her from. Taj is short for the chinese words for "Walks on Snow" because he has white feet. He's my #1 son, because I found him at 4 weeks old and he had to do the bottle for a bit too. Rygel is named after the muppet in Farscape since he looked kind of like him when he was a food obsessed baby. We changed Sassy from Blacky, both fit, but Sassy fit better. Ping & Pong were nearly inseperable when they were kittens and they had a siamese colored sister we named after a chinese coworker of mine. Most of them came with names tho.

That's cool. I used to have one named Tigger, for the same reason that you came up with Tiger. For some reason I just liked the sound of Tigger better than Tiger. Thanks for posting! PS - I love your screenname. For some reason my sister always calls me doodlebug. She got it from some show in the 80's. Just don't know why she started calling me that.

I have a calico cat named "Catalamity"...she as a kitten was always knocking things over as she scampered away from you at a high rate of speed. It was always a calamity when she did that, so the name "Catalamity " just kinda evolved...when ever she goes to a vet and there are new people there...they always kinda laugh when they hear me say her name at the check-in desk... I had another cat..he lived to the ripe old age of 17 plus years....his name was "Pooter"....when he was a kitten, he had a bad reaction to some canned catfood and got this horrible case of gas...thus the name ...."Pooter"....He slept on my pillow next to me for 17 years...I still miss him a bunch. Rest easy old boy....

I don't know, i guess the owners kid just names it after the soft drink? (she's called Pepsi, by the way!). We only got her a while ago, from friends who've split up and can't look after her. I didn't want to change her name so just left it! I think it's sweet!

That's different. Guess the people that names him really like Pepsi, huh? I couldn't so that for mine though, because the name Coke, just doesn't sound right, and it's got other meanings too, that I wouldn't want associated with my cat. The name Pepsi is defintely original.

The cat that I have now is named Camina. In Spanish that means he/she/it walks. She was the first one of the litter to try walking around and she even tried to follow me out of the room very early on. I had a cat in the past named Autumn. It was September I believe when we got her and she was a calico, so her colors reminded me of the leaves when they turn.
