Which is better chat or forums? / myLot

I notice that websites now are creating chat boxes or forums to improve site views. Both are interactive but which one is better for you and why?

I think the basic function about chat box and forums almost same, just for interactive each other. I prefer chatting because in chatting we can interactive in real time instantly like we talking in real live.

i like them both. sometimes you can have some really good discussions on a forum. but i chat alot with my friends too. saves on long distance bills
