My hubby and I are going to build a web site for friends that breed dogs. We are looking for a good web host and a good site builder. Do you know of one that does one or both of those that really works well?
Any tips or hints?
Also..he has a mac and I have a PC so anything that would work for both would be a plus.

I have built a couple, it depends on if you want to pay for hosting or get it for free, i pay for one of mine thru yahoo, that is easy to work with and then i had a free one thru bravehost.

I don't know of any hosting companies I'd recommend, but I think it's good that you have both Mac and PC. When you build a Web site it's good to view it on different computers using different browsers to make sure it looks right. Some Web sites look OK with one browser but not another, so you want to make sure all your users have a good experience with a site.

yes I have built a lot of websites on my own as I work as a Web designer for a company set as a profession and also I am doing this on a freelance basis so on for that I design websites and make them with all the HTML tools available in the market. I think this is a very progressive field and that has huge scope of improvement. If we see websites designed a few years ago and the websites of today they will find a lot of difference in the complexity and the requirements for those particular websites. Also with the increasing usage of Internet sites based on e-commerce shopping etc will keep on emerging and there will be very hard competition between them which means a lot of work for the people related to those fields. One more thing is the speed in which the technology is changing. This also helps us to keep upgrading our knowledge and be one step ahead in the field than our competitors.

godaddy.com is a good on. cheap and dependable. but think again before you purchase. of all the trillions of sites out there. can you survive. i suggest start a blog. after blogging for two months. if there are about 10 responds per day without any completion start a forum. if there are atleast 1000 registered members go for a small niche website. niche means on a specific topic deep down in the root.

I use Yahoo Web Hosting. it's affordable and I have email accounts with them for 9 years so i thought it's good idea to take their packages. They could work with PC or Mac I never heard anyone have problems with them before. Maybe you can go to their website http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com

I've made many sites - if you're looking for a good free site builder NVU is pretty cool and very easy to use. As for hosting I've used both free and paid and would happily give you a list of a few to look into if you want. Your best bet though would be to do a search based on what you need from a host: bandwith per month, file sizes, do you need databases (if you want to add blogs etc) plus anything else you can think of.
