Can anyone out there rememeber a show called "Johnny Sokko and His Giant Robot"?
For years I have remembered watching a tv show as a child about a Japanese boy with a giant robot that fought the "bad guys". I couldn't remember the name of the show, nor if such a thing really existed or was actually a random flash of memory from my childhood that I couldn't pin point.
Tonight I have officially solved the mystery! I was talking with my co-worker Cheryl and we were reminiscing about tv shows that we watched as a children. Oddly enough, as I'm (from across the roomm) looking up "The Mighty Isis" on Youtube.com she asks me if I remembered the show! So I asked her about that show that I couldn't remember and she suggested that I google "Japanese boy and giant robot" and sure enough, there it was! I couldn't believe it! All of these years I finally had an answer to that niggling question that had bugged the back of my mind for years! (Was that a real show or was I nuts!?!?!) Turns out it was real... it was Johnny Sokko and his Giant Robot!
Does anyone else remember obsecure tv shows they watched as a kid? I can't believe that I finally found this show after wondering about it for more than 25 years.

You are not alone at all. I vaguely remember the one you mentioned on Johnny Sokko and His Giant Robot but I do remember Ultraman, which was another Japanese TV Show. I also remember Isis, I enjoyed that show along with Shazaam. I also remember Lidsville and HR Puffenstuff. Ok now I'm starting to feel old. Thanks for the trip down memory lane

I vaguely remember a tv show that i watched named giant robot (i don't remember the exact full name). It used to be my favorite program at that time. It is also about a boy who has this watch sort of thing in his wrist and whenever he is in trouble or the world is in trouble, he immediately calls the giant robot and then comes the big and giant robot which fights with the evil and saves the world. I don't whether this is the same that you are mentioning.

That's the one! I loved that show when it was on and could never remember the name. It seriously drove me nuts when I thought about it for years, until now! I was so jazzed to find it.

Wow, well, as said : 'you are not alone'.
Very nice discussion, I remembered a very good time of my life.

they once aired a beautiful love story of a young japanese girl called Oshin. It was an amazing story. I also remember an Itlaian soap that they aired, though it was subtitiled for our understanding, it was a lovely show too. i would love to get hold of these shows again sometimes.

I loved "Johnny Sakko and the Giant Robot." My favorite episode and I can only remember bits and pieces, but this red blob like thing was disintegrating everyone who touched it. That one really creeped me out. That must be why it stuck with me. One that I recall is "THe land of the Lost." Where the professor and his two kids are rafting and end up in the land of dinosaurs. OMG, the acting was horrible, but I loved that show. And I thought the special effects were excellent. LOLOL

When you said in your title about Japanese tv shows, I always remember the Japanese game shows of torture, where contestants had to do some weird, whacky and very painful tasks to get through to the next round. Some of the things they had to do was vile, like laying in a tank full of snakes or eating various bits of animal anatomy. The things they did were dire to say the least. I also remember this programme I think it was Japanese called Monkey, it was fantastic as a child I marvelled at the magic and the fights. One of the characters was Pigsy, then there was Sandy, now I am remembering it, that was about 20 to 25 years ago now, they used to show it on BBC in the UK at about 6pm.
