Are best responses reserved for your best friends?

Do you mark the best response through affiliation? Do you bargain with your friends to mark your own response as best so that the same thing will happen to theirs?

When I give best response I go through and reread all that have been posted. I decide which one is best, whether they agreed with my view point or not. I do not really notice if they are on my friends list. I just go by what the responder stated. If they made a good response, if it was well thought out, if it had details. Those are important to me not who the poster was.

That's the way it SHOULD be. Sadly, that's not the way others mark their responders.

I mark the best response after the discussion has been open for a while and I don't think that there will be more responses. I read each response and the best response goes to the answer that answers the question or addresses the topic in the most clear, well thought-out way. The best response may or may not agree with my point of view; that doesn't matter. I don't necessarily rate my friends with the best response, either. I think that in making that type of "arrangement" it would be cheating MyLot and the other users who are trying to post good answers. I don't care who the user is, what country they are from, or how many stars they have when I choose. If it's the best response, then I rate it so.
