Has anybody out there tried meal replacement powders or shakes? I tried it a few times but I can't stand the taste and it doesn't dissolve easily. Also, after taking it for a period of time will you stop and go back to taking proper food again? Did it actually help you lose weight and maintain it? What brands would you recommend?

those shakes and powders depend on which type you get. i like the slim fast pre made ones because they're just easier. i did used to just drink it for breakfast because i didn't have much time in the morning. but those things are meant to be for inbetween meals. you should have 6 small meals a day. 3 full meals like breakfast, lunch & dinner and you normally sub the other 3 with those shakes and bars. thats how they really work.
when i was in HS i did drink the slim fast and that helped me a lot, but then again i was also active and didn't always have time to eat a full meal so most of my meals were small. i dropped a lot of weight back then, but i credit me moving around a lot to most of it. meal replacments are only a part of the way to lose weight, you don't even really need them, it just helps. but mostly exersize and activity and eating smaller portions, you can lose weight like that.
most brands of wight loss suppliments and things like that are also expensive, and now, i'm on a budget and can't afford things like that so i have to find other ways to deal with things.

Maybe it's just psychological that all those weight loss supplements and shakes and whatnots are helpful to us losing weight. Ultimately it's our food intake and exercise that plays the biggest role. Thank you for sharing.

I have found over the years that I tried to lose weight by not eating properly that I did lose some weight but when I went off of which ever product I happened to be using I gained the weight back plus some. I don't do any kind of substitute for my meals now. I learned the hard way. I eat six small meals and exercise along with that. I have found for me at least that is the best way.

I never lost a lot of weight but did lose some on these artificial types of replacements on meals. This is in explanation of my previous posts. One of my response said I did lose weight and the other response said I didn't. So I wanted to correct that.

I have had Carnation Instant Breakfasts...in place of breakfast obviously. I wasn't necessarily doing it to lose weight, but more because I didn't have time in the morning to have a proper breakfast. I thought it dissolved easily, but the taste wasn't that great. I have had chocolate and vanilla, and in each you could taste the chocolate and vanilla but along with both came a chalky taste...I didn't really like that at all. But they seem to be somewhat healthy as far as providing nutrients and vitamins and stuff. But then again it would be much healthier to have fruit, or a real breakfast that isn't fatty lol.

Yes, you are right. I would prefer to eat real food or fruit if possible.

I've heard of Herbalife but never tried it cos as you said, it's expensive and I don't know how long I can keep up with this as a monthly expense added to those I already have. A few of my friends took it and it worked for them too. Guess I have to save up for it.

I sometimes drink Slimfast. Not to lose weight, but because sometimes I'm rushed in teh mornings and it's a quick meal. I only do it for breakfast. They fill me up for a little while, but then I'm famsished later. So no, I woudl not recomemnd them as a way to lose weight.

I keep hearing about Slimfast. Sounds like a lot of you are using it as a meal supplement, however, so far I have not found it in Singapore yet.

If you wake up at 7 a.m., you don’t have to immediately eat a big breakfast. You’re probably not even hungry right after you wake up. You don’t have to jump start your metabolism. You simply have to structure your eating throughout the day, so you’re not too hungry later on. It's best to eat within three hours of waking. If you get up at 7 a.m., eat something by 10 a.m. Have some yogurt or a piece of fruit. If you don’t eat in the morning, you will be too hungry when you finally have a meal, and then you’ll likely overeat. Remember, what counts is your total daily calories.

My Daughter tried them and she did not like them at all, she said they taste awful and they do not fill her up. I don't think they are needed as such I think you just need to get into a routine of when to eat and what to eat. My Friend tried the Atkinson Diet and she did really well on that.

I used to drink slim fast shakes for lunch every day. I thought they tasted OK, they were quick and I didn't have to prepare anything, so that was cool. But really, it's healthier to eat fresh produce and actual foods to get the fiber, nutrients and vitamins you need.
We drink protein shakes after a tough workout, especially lifting weight - because your muscles need the protein to grow and strengthen, but we don't drink them daily. Only after a strenuous workout. If I drank protein shakes daily, I think I would actually gain weight.

The body was never intended to use replacement items for a meal. I have tried slim fast drinks, carnation breakfast drinks, curves powdered drink and I never liked them and never lost any pounds from them. The best thing I have found is to eat six small meals a day and plenty of water. It is fast to put on weight but slow to take it off. I have lost 12 pounds but it has been a slow process. That has been over a period of six months.
