I was wondering about other people's experiences out there. Have you ever been published? How did you get published? How many times did you get rejected before getting published? Do you have any suggested websites or companies? I appreciate any information posted. Thanks.

Also for more information check out Wanderlaugh's discussion on it. It is really helpful and answered a lot of my questions I had about lulu.

As a teacher, I saw articles in a professional magazine that I could have easily written. Subsequently, I read a few books on writing articles and nonfiction and submitted a query letter to one of the magazines. My first article was rejected by the first magazine and another was accepted by the second. Once I saw my name in print, I continued to submit articles and by the time all was said and done, I had a total of 30 articles in print. Over time, I submitted book ideas to various publishers and months later, received a book contract. My book, Teaching Ideas for the Come-Alive Classroom was published by the Parker Publishing Company, a subsidiary of Prentice-Hall.
I've helped a few writers, including my sister, to be published via one-on-one instruction and created a website for all writers, http://www.profitable-pen.com

I am an author and translator of the Word of God from Greek to English. I have already published many books and they are at http://www.lulu.com/arseniajoaquin
I thought I would never have my major translation work published because I have no money but I accidentally found lulu.com and there, without any single cent spent with not even a requirement to buy any, I was able to publish THE WILL New Testament (Greek to English) - major project, GENESIS & EXODUS (Greek to English), ELEMENTS of SALVATION, The Right Way, GOD, ORIGIN, TRANSFER into PERFECTION, GREEK-ENGLISH (Grammar & Vocabulary), WORDS in THE WILL New Testament, and some others.
I thank God for leading me there and to lulu.com for having such a wonderful service especially to those like me.

I have just finished my first novel, and like other posters here think LuLu is probably the best option. I believe they have a good value package for about $100 which I'll probably try later this year. In the meantime I'm working on getting my book printed locally just to see my two years of hard work in print. The other alternatines are agents or publishers, but that's a lot of work, and can be very demoralizing. The best of luck with your work.
