Both are very good and healthy to eat. Here the red onions are not as common as the white ones. We have both Spanish and home-grown (Lincolnshire) onions. The local onions seem to be hotter, or have a stronger onion smell. They are the ones that make me cry, anyway! Our red onions are not quite as hot and are very good raw in a salad. They also make a very good onion marmalade, which is served with meat.

I use both types for cooking but when it comes to eating raw, me and my family likes the violet one, yes it is a bit hot, but we like it. I think both the types are good for our health. It is also good to keep an onion which is cut into half, with you when you are moving around in hot sun. I keeps body and head cool. This I read in grandmother's remedies.

I think brown onion is tasty and brown onion is more than white onion. Both are better for health.

I'm not sure which ones are better for our health and never really thought about it either. I use both the white and violet color onions for cooking and I like both. I usually buy whichever one is on sale or available at the market and don't really have a preference for either one. Both are good for me...
