How do you choose the discussions you will answer to?

I just want to know how you choose or find the discussions you answer to. I do it by clicking on "discussions" and i look to the last ones. If I think one discussion is interesting I answer.
But some people are using the search engine to find discussions (for exemple the word turtle will make you see all discussions about turtles)
And you?

I do both. I usally like to answer new discussions and i get a kick out of being the first responder. But there are times when I want to read about a particular topic so I use the search engine.
I also try to answer my friends topics at least once a week and hit them all.

If i can relate to the topic, or know of any information to what they are talking on or asking for.
If I don't understand or know, I will past the topic up. also it has to be eyecatching as well...
