Want to start my own business

I've been thinking about this for some time now. I want to start my own business, but don't know where to start exactly. I had gift baskets in mind, where i'd make the gift baskets (something i love to do) and then sell them for special occasions. I wanted it to be where the customer would decide how much they wanted to spend, and with that and their theme/occasion, i'd purchase items and put up a nice basket for them. Do you think it would work? A friend of mine said it's better if i make baskets, and sell them as is. What do you think? Any ideas and inputs will be greatly appreciated!

This is a great idea and my daughter is also starting a gift basket business. Here's a couple of ideas (which were hinted at earlier). Make gift baskets for the real estate business. Agents often give new home owners, renters, etc. a gift. Create baskets to display in professional offices: Lawyer, doctor, tax preparers, etc. Best of luck in starting your own business!

I think that you have a great idea, but here you said nothing about how much money you want to invest or how much money you can affort to lose. I think that some business are like gambling. All or nothing.

I know of a girl that did that and eventually rented out a store for her baskets. I don't know how she's doing now, I haven't seen her in a while. My neice has started something like that too, but I'm not sure she's making any money at it. I'll find out soon though when I do her taxes. Having your own business is great. My husband and I are working on building ours up so that he can quit his regular job and just work our business full time. I can't wait for that to happen! It's a great idea. I wish you the best!

We promote a wellness company, help people save money and live a little healthier. It's lots of fun and my husband will be quitting his full-time job soon to take this over full-time.

Great Idea! I've done gift baskets for a while and have a lot of fun doing them...People love receiving them. And if you have the time to research new and unusual produts, people just get so excited. As a matter of fact I remember starting it around Valentines day and that was followed by Easter so I had a ball. I have been lucky to find another business that lets me incorporate the two and it's been working out just fine. Feel free to message me if you're interested.

Well, why not try both ways at the same time. That gives them both options and your customers can decide which way to go. The Basic route or pick what they want. If you go with the basic route, you can control the cost to you to a level you need, but with your customers picking out what they like, you know you make what they would like. If I was you I would try both routes for a month and then look at the end result, where did you profit more and which ones where the big sellers, that should give you and idea of what to do.

Sure why not....go for it. You can start off small and see where it goes...I am a writer so I know a little about it. You should make up some cards...and pass them out. You will need a website. You will need supplies. Then you have to choose your pricing...etc. It may be hard at first, but perseverance is the key. If you need anything written up...perhaps I could help? Anyway...good luck...

Check out the following links for government info. This is where you can apply for your master business licence which you need to operate a business in Ontario. http://www.businessregistration.gc.ca/..... http://strategis.ic.gc.ca/epic/internet/... http://sbinfocanada.about.com/b/a/144844... There is a lot of info at those sites. Gravesite landscaping could work if you are doing speciality work just for the family or friends of a deceased person. I.E adding fresh flowers every week etc. But it is a very personal thing. If you would like some help getting yourself organized, contact my company. We specialize in sales, marketing, and operations related products and services for small businesses. I work with many new business owners and we have a special program just for them.

This is a good product idea. I could buy your baskets and use them to package my strawberries. Hmmm, seems a good business tie-up. I wish you are in the Philippines. It is always good to start a business with what you enjoy and have passion about, this will give you the power to see it through hard times, and let it grow. You can have a steady ready made baskets, make a collection of your work design so your buyers will have something to look after they have bought the first design, they will keep coming back for your new creations. Best of success to your business.

Your friend is smart. Start like that them customize as needed. There are some books on the subject of small business ownership. Try Barnes and Nobles or Amazon or Borders.

I think this is a fabulous idea and I agree with what was posted earlier. If you could do both, you would have a broader horizon of people. Some people would probably have specific things they would like and others might just want a general basket. Good luck with your venture, I'm sure it will be a big hit!

I agree with other poster: provide both. You could sell the basket only and the ready made package, and better, include 'custom made basket' where your customer could choose their base on their need

Start off buying kits that are offered by many companies. That way, you won't need to meet the minimum for each company and you'll have the opportunity to see what works for you. Find out about the competition in your area, read some books on business, as well as gift basket business, check out gift basket businesses on the net, watch some videos on designing gift baskets. Give your baskets as gifts. When you hear all the oohs and ahs, explain that you have a business making these baskets. Then you'll take it from there. Good Luck!

yaa it would better to sell gift baskets rather then just only baskets as in this sense u also own a store of gifts which will create great attraction and if ur gift packings are unique then they really attract more and more customers.

That's a wonderful idea! You could try doing both. You could sell ordinary baskets without anything in it and sell gift baskets for special days too. I also want to have my own business but I have no idea where or how I should start.
