I am almost 65 and have been on and off diets all my life . I lost a lot of weight yrs ago then gradually it all went back on again, I try so hard and I am still ( cuddly ) well thats what my grandchildren say ( bless them) My mum is 88 nice and slim and she still watches her weight, I feel like saying forget it and get on with life as long as we feel ok and our clothes are smart and we look good . What do you think?

I have recently gotten into learning about fitness, and the biggest thing to stay away from is "diets". They are not good for you. The best way to get ahold of your weight is to basically watch what you eat, and eat when you hungry. Starving yourself will put weight on because your body goes into starvation mode, and you'll acutally gain wait then loose it looking bloaded-not fit. And over eating will get you bigger, so you want to just eat when your hungry, and stop when you full. Also if you eat slower you'll have better control on figuring out your full. It takes 4-7 minutes for you body to tell you your full, and when it does it wants you to stop eating.
I know it sounds like a lot. But If you just monator what you eat, and how much..and try to fit excercize in your sechedual everyday you'll be perfectly healthy

yes I have to agree with what you are saying here as long as the weight is not affecting our health. I have also been on many diets throughout my life but now due to health problems I have to lose more weight and keep it off permanely if I can so far I have lost 1 stone which is really good for me and when we lose weight we have to do it slowly otherwise it will come right back.

I think you need to worry every time cause their is certain weight mentioned by the doctor if it is below or above that then it need to be reduced and brought to normal so that we ll be healthy and strong and we leave long it doesnot matter with the age of the person.

I think "feeling good" is the operative phrase here. I am almost 65, am overweight, and feel horrible. I have heart problems, arthritis, and other things that make it hard for me to get around. I want to lose weight because it is the single thing that will make a difference in my quality of life. Otherwise, I would say "forget it". So, if you feel good, don't have any major health problems, I would say do what you like as far as food goes. You have to bear in mind though, that being overweight can bring on health problems like diabetes, etc.

I know how you feel. Maintaining a normal weight is a lifelong battle. My Mother is now 75 years old and she still fights to keep off those extra 10 pounds. She always says that she will never, ever give in to it. The problem with a few extra pounds, as we know, is that it can get out of control so fast. Before you know it, it's 50 pounds extra, and nothing fits you. If you are comfortable as you are, your clothes look nice, and your doctor isn't finding any major problems, then don't beat yourself up about a few extra pounds.

I feel people should be more concerned if they are healthy. If they eat a proper diet and get the right amount of exercise, then the weight should not be a problem. The best thing in the world is walking. It is not strenuous, and can be very relaxing. As for the diet, eat more small meals in a day, instead of a couple of big ones. By doing this, it will cause your metabolism to increase, which will cause your extra weight to drop off.
Not all people are going to be thin, that is all there is to it. It has so much to do with genetic makeup and DNA.
I have never dieted. I am an active person, and I love fresh fruits and veggies, and I have always prefered lean meats. Yes, even the red ones. LOL.
You need to do what makes you happy. If you want to stop dieting, then stop. Just make a few changes, and you will see a difference.
Good luck.

I have always fought to put on weight until I had a hysterectomy. Then all the weight I was trying to put on over the years showed up. LOL So, for the last 10 years I have been dieting to shed the weight.
I have been able to shed a LOT of weight and keep it off. Then I stopped smoking and added about 10 more pounds on top of the 10 I was trying to lose. I am with you though, as long as I am healthy and I look smart in my clothes, I am not going to worry about it so much. I will work in my garden in the summer and shed some pounds. I will even try to get more active, but to deprive myself of good food is not how I want to live my last days here on this earth.

I have stopped worrying about my waight years ago. I find that as long as I am happy with me who cares what others think. The world is so preoccupied with telling you what to do every minute of the day and what to eat you just want to say who cares.
I have asthma and when I am sick I am put on steroids and guess what steroids puts the weight on you. I go up and down in weight. I am never going to be a size five but who wants to look like they are a stick not me.
I say if you are happy and you are healthy than you can be any weight you want. Be secure in yourself and who you are.
