The pledge of allegiance being stripped of its glory?

I had a HEATED discussion with my peers in College Speech class the other day. For a grade we had to form a two sided debated about wether the Pledge of Allegiance stating "one nation, under god" should remain. Several people in my class, although they were american born citizens and believers in god, felt it should be taken out. Why should such a time tested tradition be removed from our nation?! The founding fathers founded this nation in the name of god..even if you dont believe in god, the allegiance should state that. No one MAKES you state the allegiance.that is a choice you make, so why should we alter it for ANYONE'S sake? What do the rest of MyLotters think?

Good discussion!
I believe it should be left alone. It has been just fine until now. I believe in God, but do believe others have there rights to there beliefs also. I have heard of people not saying the pledge because they are atheists, and respect there opinion. I have seen people talk, leave there hats on, kiss( I do not mean a little peck either!), and all sort of disrespectful acts, but would respect someone who just sat or stood there silently, or recited there own version, much more than any of the afore mentioned citizens.

Thanx for replying =) People have a right to either ignore it, recite it differently, or simply stand respectfully. Why change what has been tradition?
