One day I bought a computer magazine for only 10 dollars, equivlaent to 1.3 dollars in USA. A CD-Rom was attached to it. Inside it was a Ubuntu sysem.
When I got home and install it into my old computer which has only a ram of 512MB, and a cpu with a speed of 1 Ghrz, I was surprised that it worked very smoothly. The OS looks very much like Windows. Also almost all the software availabe to run under it are free.
Now I am still figuring out how to intall Chinese input system in it. Please, can any of you tell the limitation of this system? So far I only know this is Linux-based operating system. Also any one has the right to modify the software until it works the way he or her wants to.

no its very prone to viruses and unlike windows doesnt have the facility to register so that you can get live updates and things like those also the operating system is abit slower,as far as i know!

Thanks for the info. I tried some Linux based systems before, like Mandrake, their menu claims that the OS demands only a very low computer system to run. And they are basically free. I guess that's their attrative points.
