I want to start a new diet. I have heard the good and bad about both of these diets.I want to lose about 20 lbs. Assuming I am healthy and willing to take the risks of a low carb diet, which one of the diets works the best? Or is it another diet that worked well for you? Thanks !!!!

I have never tried adkins or south beach. This year I am trying to lose 60lbs and have lost 15lbs so far. I have been counting calories by going by serving sizes. I keep it between 1200 to 1500 calories a day. I alway try to keep it closer to 1200. I also go by the food pyriamd. I keep track of how many bread/starch ,fat, milk, meat, vegetable and fruit servings I have. I try to fulfill each of them. I give myself one day a week to cheat because that's what I need to keep me from feeling like I CAN'T have something. That's working for me so far. I try to get variety too! Chicken, stir fry, lasagna, etc so I don't get bored with the same meal over and over.

The problem with a low carb diet is that you have to stick to it even after you lose or you will quickly gain again. The south beach diet is probably the healthiest choice, but the best thing you could do for yourself is to be active and eat a lot of unprocessed foods. When you grocery shop if you stick to the the outside of the store where all the resh stuff is and avoid the middle you will be making good food choices.
