Definitely not. I kept a diary when I was very young and my mum read it, so that thought me a lesson. I would never put anything on paper anything on paper again. The only things I keep in my dairy now, are birthdays and appointments.

I started a diary about 9 years ago. There is a huge chunk ripped out of it. I read what I had written and realized that I didn't want anyone else to read that stuff.

I also have to admit I'm not one of those people that will continue with it over and over. It loses it's intrigue quickly with me! But I hear ya on ripping out some stuff! lol

I don't keep a diary with secrets in it, no. When I was younger I did keep one for awhile, but not really for long or with anything in it that it would have mortified me if my parents had found and read. *laugh* I do keep an online journal, but I wouldn't write anything in it that I didn't want the general public to know. After all, one reason that I do it is that i love watching my stats and getting visitors, lol! I crave those little bits of attention. ^_~

I used to keep a journal of sorts, but I don't anymore. I see your concern. The old saying, "Don't write anything down that you don't want on the front page of the New York Times." Some people swear by them as a way of sorting out thoughts. As long as you safeguard your diary, I think it would be fine to have one.

Exactly! I have fears that if I die at this point in my life and my parents would have to 'step in' as I'm divorced with kids... they'd find some stuff that would floor them! LOL Then again, maybe not!

I used to write in a diary when I was younger, in elementary school. But my older sister would find it and read through it and then show my mom. So after that I stopped writing in any type of journals or diaries. I keep everything in my mind, or write things down here.

Yes I have a diary or journal it is mostly for when I am angry tough so I can write in it to get all the negative emotions out it helps alot in my case. Sometimes though I will rip it up afterwards and burn it so I know nobody else can read read it I understand what you mean by others reading the diary it has happened to me a few times. So a long time I didn't write in them. But you could burn the diary after you finish writing in it. Computer diary would be best with passwords that way they will never be able to get into it unless they are good hackers.

ROFLMAO... I so agree with you! Although at this point in my life if I had a true "significant other" I'd just be like... "Dude, I have the hots for this one guy.. so I AM fantasizing while we're going at it.. get over it.. picture me as Pamela Anderson who whoever rocks your boat!" LOL
But I agree... no paper trails here either!

I don't keep a diary but my father has kept one (except he calls it a "journal") since he was a young man. He writes down every single thing that happens during his day! He suffered a mental breakdown when he was in college and says it is his way of keeping sane. He gave us permission to read them but said if he hurt any feelings, that we were forewarned! I have never looked at them much, because I felt they were private. He was a literature major but didn't graduate, and took writing classes when I was younger. Maybe someday he will turn his writings into a book!

Yes, I understand you very well. I kept a diary about 23 -24 years ago, it was a really hard period in my life. I didn't want to tell anybody, how lousy it actually was, so I just put it on the paper. About 5 years ago I found it... arrrgh! I burnt it! I shall never keep a diary again, and put only neutral things on the paper.

I am a write it down, see it kind of person!

lol... both are deterrents for me... time and time consumption along with the fear of having someone read it!
