What role does music play in how someone will turn out?

I have heard discussions about how screwed up people end up when they listen to Hip Hop. I don't agree. I think that you can listen to any kind of music and turn out great or screwed up. I believe more is involved in how a person turns out, like parenting and support. What do you think??

on one hand i agree with you, on the other hand i dont. you can never predict how an individual will turn out. maybe the person is easily influenced, and beleives everything they hear in a song. so in this case yes music will screw a person up. but if your of sound mind and know the difference between reality and entertainment, then no music cant screw you up. and your right, it all goes back to parenting, it is the reason why parental advisory stickers are on music. case closed.

well put! thank you for your comment. It just hurts my heart when people want to make it about hip hop and that if you listen to it you will end up screwed up. Music is music, it is up to the parents to explain the right and wrong things to their children.

I agree with you. I don't think music makes the person. People like to blame everything but themselves. I think kids are going to take the road they want no matter what. You can raise a kid in a good home enviroment but doesn't mean they won't go bad.

Thanks for the comment. I do feel really strongly about this. We need to pay attention to our children and raise them. It doesn't matter what kind of music they listen to. it is what we teach them about the music they are listening to.
