i was posting my resume as a nanny on the local craigslist site in my town. I recieved an email from a man in the uk saying he was moving him and his two children to the us and needed a nanny. So we talked and he offered me a ridiculous amount of money($900) a week! He told me to send him my info name, address, ect... so he can send me a cashiers check for $6,000. Playing along I gave the info and sure enough I recieved that HUGE check in my name. But by the time I got it I recieved about 6 other emails from other parents around the world looking for childcare saying they where moving to the us and that they too wanted to send me a check in advance. I recived another check from some one else for $3500. By this time I knew this had to be some sort of scam but Im not quite sure what they want. They wanted me to deposit the money in my bank asap and then send or wire part of it back to them. Has anyone dealt with this before or know what these people are trying to do?? I did not cash the checks although they look real Im scared they might not be and I could be liable for that money.

You will lose a lot of money this way if you are not careful - it stinks of a scam and therefore you know it is... They are looking for people to cash dud checks and send them real cash - it's a well-known scam, you will find plenty of cases if you search online. Get all the information you have (names, email addresses, info on the checks etc) and try googling for them - I bet you will find someone who has similar experiences with these exact individuals...

I think what they do is send you a check, ask you to cash it and send them the money, and then right after your bank usually finds out the check was phoney and then you are stuck paying it back.

Craigslist is notorious for scams. It's a really bad place to post a resume. You'er better off taking out an add in the local paper or putting up flyers. Craigslist is swarming with scammers and worse. I'm sorry this has happened to you. I'd get in touch with the banks the checks were written from and explain the situation to them and get their advice.

I recieved some emails like that also from Craigslist, but I didn't answer them because I had read on Enannysource.com that they could be a scam. I don't understand what the scam is though, if THEY'RE sending YOU money! They may be trying to launder money somehow? Maybe they are fake checks, and by the time you realize the checks are fake, you have already sent them the real money, and you are stuck with that debt? I just reread the note I was sent by Enannysource about scams. They still didn't say WHAT the scam was but they definitely said beware especially from other countries who want to send you a large amount of money up frpnt. They said to take the checks to your bank and ask them to investigate the checks before you cash it, and if you have any suspicious you should take the check to the local police station or call the FBI. Have you given anyone your bank account number or social security number? If so, you may want to switch to another bank account number!
