should illegal immigrants learn english or should americans learn spanish

i live in texas and even our grocery store products have dual languages i get confused sometimes but we have 3 channels in spanish too? i know we have asian immigrants too but our products don't carry asian decriptions and we have no asian channels?? the usa is letting the spanish take over aren't they? or is it just me that has noticed this trend? they are even teaching my third grader spanish in school? no offense but if i had my choice she would learn french as we plan to move back to maine where we are no longer a minority and have some say in what we are exposed too....i'm not racist but this was our country...now its just a place for anyone to come live off our tax dollars and they wonder why social security is in trouble....

I totally agree with you. I mean this is America, and the language is English. Since when did we cater to foreigners. Pretty soon it will be Spanish nationality and they will overtake America. It's pretty sad when Americans feel uncomfortable in there own country. When we feel like the outsiders. I'm not racist either, but it's pretty sad when we take care of foreigners better than we can take care of our own people.

i just saw hogan knows best...really funny show ..anyway they are in south florida for brooke's singing career and he couldn't even order a subway sandwich because everyone speaks spanish lol he was asking anyone here speak english...i think this proves my point a town in florida hire's workers who speak spanish and nothing else?? to sell to americans?...how can they even take checks or do credit cards when these people have no clue about our language???

I agree, my schoolwould always send home papers in enlish and spanish, sometimes I would just get a spanish paper. If it needed to be signed my mom wouldn't sign it, She would say "This is freaking America, that means I speak english not spanish." Then i would have to get an emlish only copy of the paper. But when I can't understand a person when I am ordering I usually dont pay, I complain to the manager (sometimes they dont even speak english)and I usually get me food free or at least a discount. They tend to count your change wrong and give you more money back. I dont correct them because they used a calculator to come up with my change, how hard is it to count out the correct change when the amount is on the screen? Its insane how they hire people who know little or no english and expect them to successfully sell a product and have the customers coming back. I just hope we get somebody in office that has a brain and actually uses it.

I know that a lot of people have the same opinion that you do. I think all the spanish is a crutch and perhaps inhibiting the faster learning of English without it. However, if it were me in a foreign country, you can bet I'd want all the English help I could get! I wish we all had a universal language!

I feel all immigrants should learn english. In many other countries in there schools they learn english plus other languages. I don't understand why we are giving into the spanish immigrants. We have many other immigrants who are here, and they seem to have to problem with learning english...I'm not racist either, but enough is enough..If they want to be a American so bad and live here why can't they learn the language??
I have seen that there is going to be alot of changes in the laws with the senate now back to work. And yes part of it is to learn english. They will even have to pay back taxes, and no Amnesty. It gives you all the updates of what is going on and it is going to get tougher as they are working on a tamper-proof identification card for legal foreign workers. Plus they will have to pay a penatly when they go for a Visa...Check out the site..
