Standing in agreement with several others here, not trying to "turn this into a bible forum" but only answering/responding to the question asked - the bible has been the single book that has changed my life and I am an avid reader and read a thousands of books over the years.

thats a fair comment, there are lots of different versions of the Bible, I think I would like to learn Hebrew, Aramaiac and Koine Greek just to be able to read from the source material but that seems like a big job, I'm still struggling with English (lol). Thanks for your profound input.

The Holy Bible totally changed my life.
Before my conversion, I was like many people who are confused and don't know what to believe in. I thought I was very intelligent and good that I think of so many things that people do not know. In fact, I have been consistently a topnotcher from Grade I up to high school.
I have encountered countless problems and hardships. I didn't understand the Holy Bible and I didn't like to read it anymore because when I reach Leviticus in reading, I said that anyway I couldn't follow the teachings of God so if there is God, then may God forgive me.
But somehow God did not forsake me and sent to me a man who taught me and I learned that what is binding in our time is the New Testament, no longer the Old Testament, and he showed to me Hebrews 8:13. From then on, I came to understand the Word of God.
I am now a Christian, a servant of God, an author and translator of the Word of God from Greek to English and I have already published THE WILL New Testament (Greek to English), GENESIS & EXODUS (Greek to English), and many others which I hope could help people to understand the Word of God.

most of the Biible texts were in Koine greek, the standard literary language of the region since the days of Alexanders conquering of the region. Although Hebrew and Aramaic were the languages of conversation texts were more often Koine.

I can't narrow it to one book, but reading the Bible has definitely changed my life for the better. "How the other half lives" by Jacob Riis really opened my eyes to poverty in the United States and helped me realize that the U.S. also has a hunger problem not just third world countries.

Yes. I read all the time as a child, and when I was twelve, I read the book Exodus, which was about the Holocaust. Until then I had no idea of how completely evil people can be. It made me more afraid of the world because something that horrible can happen.

books like that are very important. They say that those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

The book that really changed the way I thought about life, religion, etc, has rather a strange name - *The Book on the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are*, by Alan Watts.
Watts was a well known figure in the 60s, together with Timothy Leary and his ilk. His views on religion in that book turned my belief completely on it's head.
While it didn't turn me into a Buddhist, it made me think very differently about religion, and life in general.
Good topic............Cheers.

I know of Leary but Watts is new to me. Any piece of literature that makes you re-think the way you view something like religion is a powerful thing but it takes an open mind to be able to appreciate it. Thanks for joining the debate, i will note down the book.
