I didn't like Da Vinci Code

I found the book boring in the beginning and tried enough not to give up reading. When it finally started to be a bit interesting, I couldn't help but find it so superficial and pretentious that it was making me nervous.
Last month I rent the movie in dvd and returned it to the video club without having managed to seeing it.
What was your opinion about it? Does anyone else believes that this book is over-estimated?

Da Vinci Code is just a fiction, a fiction that is blasphemous to God. Those who believe in God really get nervous of what some people including the author of this book are doing to God. They don't understand and realize that they are actually blaspeming God. This is blasphemy and believers should not take any part in this.
The author earned millions of dollars from Da Vinci Code. He used God for business.

see you agree that it is a fiction and fiction are to be taken as fiction only. He earned because god was on his side you won't because you didn't have that brain to write it. (no offense intended :D) I won't say it was boring, the way he has mixed fact with fiction has made those beliving in god angry. People who cannot keep apart facts from fiction always find themselves in trouble. You could have acutally praised they way he has studied those signs and symbols and did a meticulous effort to make you believe what is non-existent.

Yes, I agree it is just fiction and I understand arsenajoaquin's point of view, but I never said whether I agree or not. My point is not whether somebody believes in God or not, my point is that I found the book very narrow, and I didn't appreciate at all the symbolism, cause I found it superficial. The writer, in my opinion, didn't care enough to write a good book, he cared to write a best seller. And these two things do not always go together, don't you agree with that?

I didn't enjoy the book that much either. Well ... it was ok in bits but I just thought it dragged for much of the time. There was an awful lot of stuff in there that I thought was unnecessary. There was just so much hype about it I felt obliged to read it. Once I'd started reading it I just persevered to the end even though it was hard work. I found it fairly pretentious as well. Not seen the film although I've heard it's not that good either.

My boyfriend loves the whole theory of the Da Vinci Code. I bought him the book for his birthday. He read it quickly and loved it!! So I bought him the dvd for Christmas. I tried to watch the movie, and fell asleep. I understand the concept, but I think he's way more into it then I am. I think I need to watch the whole movie (awake) before I make a true opinion on it. :-)

I see your point of view. Well, actually I believe s o m e of the facts are partially true, but their reporting in the book seems very superficial in my opinion. But everyone has his own taste in fiction and in life :):)
As for the movie, everytime I have seen a movie based on a book that I ve already read, I felt very disappointed. With one only exception in this, the Name of the Rose film was just as impressive, deep and atmospheric as my favourite book

I totally enjoyed this book. Granted, I found the very begining a bit hard to get through. But after that I finished it in three days. Perhaps it's because I read it like a mystery novel. A 'who done it' kind of book. I am not Catholic, so none of that bothered me. I found his theories (ok, not all his) fascinating. The history behind the compass rose is not something I would have known otherwise. I did not however, care for the romantic relationship that evolved. Very cliche.
I also read his other book, Angels and Demons and liked that even better. It took me all over Rome and introduced me to some other Catholic rituals and documents.
As stated above, it is a work of fiction and must be looked at that way.

I have read the book "The Da Vinvi Code" and like you found it boring. To me it read like those dime store decitive novels. His so called fact about organizations and place he misrepresented. I have found that when the media put up a lot of hoopla about a book or movie that it is not one I want to read or see I am always disappointed
