I have heard it is also a lack of magnesium as well as potassium. I'm not too sure where to get more magnesium in your diet naturally. I'm pregnant so I'm drinking mylanta like it's gold so I get it there. It definitely helps and drink alot of water.

Bananas can help becuase charlie horses are caused by lack of potassium. You could eat more bananas which have lots of potassium or you could take a potassium supplement.

Potassium should help. Also, make sure you're getting plenty of water to drink every day. Sometimes doing stretches periodically (especially before bedtime) can help prevent them as well.

I have great luck taking a calcium plus magnesium supplement. It takes magnesium and vitamin D both for you to get the benefit of your calcium. Potassium is also valuable, but do not take a supplement except under physicians supervision as it affects your heart function. Magnesium is found along with potassium in bananas. My husband swears by them. As long as he eats two bananas daily he does not have leg cramps. Magnesium is also in nuts, beans and seafood. When I was pregnant, a million years ago, they told us to do the wall push ups, where you stand back from the wall, put your hands out shoulder width apart and do a pushup on the wall and hold it with the stretch in the calf of your leg. That did tend to keep away the charlie horses.

Well my dad who used to get charle horses every night swears by vitamin E. He takes it daily to help prevent them. I do know he has a tendency to take too much so it would be best to check to see what the recommended daily dosage is for it and go from there. He doesn't have any trouble now with them though so he might be right about it helping. Hope it can help you.

Its a female disease so we suppress it eating fruits like banana, apple but do not think it is going, better to eat pottasium and calcium tablet. Why it happen cannot say consult your physician is better.
