Why should guys be expected to give the marriage proposal?

Should women have to wait on the guy to propose? Why is it so weird to people when they hear of women proposing to men? Is this just a man thing? If you are in love and you both are committed, why can't the woman pop the question?

There is no hard and fast rule. I think it is just social norm that men propose. Why? are you thinking of proposing to someone. I think as a woman that takes guts!

No, I'm already married. :) I'm not going to propose. I just wondered what others thought about this. I think a girl should feel free to do it as well.

I popped the question to my husband. Actually I announced to everyone we were getting married. Then the next day I properly proposed, he said yes. Several years later he even got an engagement ring.

Wow! That is awesome. Congratulations, I'm glad he said yes. I think the engagement ring thing is really sweet.

I guess its just tradition because of the whole woman wearing the engagement ring. I do like in the movie Runaway Bride when Julia Robert's character proposes, it so sweet :)
