I couldn't pick just one but my top ten (or maybe it would have to be a top twenty!) would have to include U2/The Joshua Tree, AC/DC/Back In Black, Oasis/Definitely Maybe, Radiohead/The Bends, Rolling Stones/Exile On Main Street, The Clash/London Calling, Nirvana/Nevermind.
I agree Born To Run is a great album although I'm not a big Springsteen fan. Having said that I've only really listened to that one and Born In The USA.

For all the hype, Born in the USA may be my least-favorite album of his. Good list on your part...London Calling is probably the most groundbreaking album of the past 30 years.

Oh there are lots of them for me but I remember as a teenager in the 80's the one that made the most impression on me was my brother's Midnight Oil album ( 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1) which he used to play all the time. I think it was released in 1983 and it sounded so different from anything that was out at that time, it blew me away. Way ahead of their time - still sounds fresh today.

I am torn between The Wall by Pink Floyd and Bat out of Hell by Meatloaf.
The first album I ever bought was actually The Wall and have gone thru the record,then 2 tapes,and now bought the cd,taped a few copies,then put the cd away in case I need it again.

Both are really good choices. Bat Out of Hell would probably be in my Top 3.

My tastes are a bit obscure, I would go for Impurity by New Model Army and The Colours By The Men They Couldn't Hang. Of the more well known stuff, Rising by Rainbow, Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath and First and Last and Always by The Sisters of Mercy would all be high on the list.

Nice question. My favorite album would be Smashing Pumpkins' "Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness". It's a double album. I never get tired of listening to this, i like this album so much that i learned to play all the songs contained here in my guitar. =)
