I think it will work out better, it gives the drivers who win more a better chance at makeing the chase, I think this change came because of the situation that almost happend last year where the driver who won the most races almost didn't make the chase. Really I think you should be in if you win the most races, but didn't get enough points. but thats my opinion and probably not shared by most people.

I would agree, it seems they are so intent on makeing the chase, that they back off from winning races just so they don't screw up. Some still go all the way for the win, but others I am sure take second or third just to be safe.
Smart moves, but not as much fun for the fans.

They had been thinking about changing the system for a while and with the fact two years ago Dale Jr. nor the rainbow warrior made it and then with last season with smoke on the outside looking in and Kahne winning so many races they had to do something racing had become more about making it to the chase instead of winning.

They are giving the winner an additional 5 points, so instead of it being 10 points more than second, it will be 15. Leading the most laps when second doesn't lead any and there would be 25 points more.
Also, for the chase there will be 12 drivers instead of 10 and the resting of points will give the driver the with the most wins the most points. Each of the 12 drives will get 5000 points and 5 points for each win they have. For example, last year Kahne started the Chase in 10th. If this point system would have been used, he would have started the Chase in first because he had more wins than anyone else in the Chase.

I like the idea of awarding the winner more points. I think that has been a long time coming. I also wish they would award the top five in qualifying some points. I think that would put a little more emphasis on qualifying, especially since they've taken away the need for the top 35 to really push it.
