A good question - but many Asian countries are rapidly entering the reign of developed countries. Look at Korea, Japan, and China. Throughout civilization there has been the rise and fall of empires and super powers. I personally would prefer not to live in a country designated a super power (even though I currently live in one) - I would prefer to live in a developed nation that is devoid of the international politics and foreign affairs - but sticks to working on its own issues.
Despite the fact that my country (USA) is considered one of the wealthiest in the world, we still have a lot of people who live in poverty. Thousands are without homes and many people, including young children will go to bed tonight hungry. Considering all the wealth of my nation, this is really a terrible shame.

I think most people are surprised we have poverty in the USA. Thing is that poverty in the USA is hidden from society - no one wants to know about it or see it. There are places in the USA where people still don't have running water or electricity. But most people just don't want to know and don't want to care.
