I often buy stuff from ebay, but I've just received an email saying that it's from ebay. Its an invoice for something that I definately didnt buy (a watch), for nearly $500, and it came to an email address that I don't use for ebay. Has anyone experienced this? I presume this is a scam and not a mistake? All replies greatly appreciated!!

It's scam alright. I had a pay pal email telling me that my account would be in a hold status until I updated all my info.....Yep it was a fake I forwarded it to Paypal and they confirmed within 20 minutes it was a scam. You should also forward it to spam@uce.com This is the government agency who traces these spams.

Yes it is a scam. I get them everyday. Usually they get sent it the bulk folder, but sometimes they get through. You can forward the email to ebay and they will investigate, ro just delete it. I also get emails from paypal asking for payment. Also trash. You can forward that directly to payl at spoof@paypal.com, and they will check into it.

I you ever buy something on ebay, you can tell the difference between the scam emails you may receive, and the genuine ebay emails you get when you purchase something. Don't mean to generalise but its generally from a nigerian. I get loads of emails from them for some bizarre reason.....

Sounds like a scam to me. I get tons of emails like this all the time. I just send them to spoof@paypal.com and they will get back with me to let me know if it's a spam or not. If you know for fact that you didn't buy something just send it to the email address mentioned above and ignore it.

yes, i've had those too. it is a SCAM, so don't even open it when you see it. If your worried about your account just go to your account and check it yourself. You can send that email to ebayspoof.com., and they will review it for you. Don't go to the account with the site address they give you ( the fake invoice), thats how they get your info.

I'm pretty certain it's a scam . If it's not your ebay address ,then it's not a mistake .

Yep, a scam. The best way to tell is not to go by any emails you get, but instead to log into your "my ebay" section to your messages or items purchased or whatever category the e-mail would fit best in. If it ain't there it's phishing...........I get tons of those every day. I get notices from paypal saying I've paid for things I never paid for, I get invoices for things I've never bought, I get questions about items I'm not even selling......people have WAY too much time on their hands....

Like everyone else said, it's a scam. I sell on Ebay and have never gotten anything like that. Why would ebay be charging you, the buyer for something? Last i knew they don't. I get scam emails from Pay Pal like that on an email i don't even use for pay Pal but I do for Ebay. Just ignore it and have a great day.

not to worry, it is a scam. They hope that you will go to your paypal through their link to check your account so they can get your log in details for paypal and steal your money.. Just throw it away or email a copy of it to abuse@ebay.com and same address for paypal.. If those are not correct addresses you may need to go to each site respectively and find out what address to send spam complaints to.

Oh I see! So they don't think people are going to pay the invoice - they just think they'll log in through their link to check what's going on! Makes more sense now! Thanks for explaining that Resasour!

I think this is not a scam, but you are allready become the victim of carder. Your credit card allready hijack by somebody. You should tell or report your credit cards provider as soon as you can, report it that you didn't do those transaction, and ask them to track down who do that to you. usually credit cards company will do that for you, since it will help them to fight carder too. hope this help you.

Thanks Lameran! Luckily I don't think they have my credit card details - the email was one asking for payment, not a receipt of payment, thank goodness...!!!

This is the scam.If the email is responded from ebay. Then it contain the address of ebay. But as it is outsider then he needs to know your account id.In this way he want to cheat you. This type of scam is avoided in the way you have done. Also how can the simple cost $500.I think that almost the powerfull watch costs only $100.Email scam is very common. Some sites try to find these emails from other sites. In this way they send large number of email called email counter. This is easy if you have some software. It takes very less time to learn these tricks on internet.

defintely a scam/spoof...we get hundreds a week(they all go to a no longer used email address)....if it originates from eBay then it will have your real name within the top part of the message....but any links within it won't go to ebay.... You can forward the original email and the message source to ebay for confirmation and likewise with scam/spoofs for Paypal too.... send to spoof@ebay.com and spoof@paypal.com as appropiate.. they usually respond pretty quickly

Yes it is a scam. You can tell it is a scam because it was sent to an email that is not registered with eBay. Also, if eBay ever sends you an email, notice that on the top of the email it says: This email was sent by eBay to "your username here" ("Your real name here"). In those phising emails (that are scams to get your eBay ID and password) it will say something like: "This email was sent by eBay to a valued customer." If you have any doubt just open your web browser and go to www.ebay.com and go into My eBay, and you can view your bill. Do not fall victim to these emails :(.
