aptitude tests.........why????

Now a days many of the companies either government or private are looking for those proffesionals who have more aptitude. i didnt understand why??? but, one thing i understood is that picking people basing on aptitude than acadamic skills was proved to b a good success i wnat to know the cause of such a system.
