I came across a series called "A Song of Ice and Fire" by George RR Martin recently. It's one of the best series i've ever read. It's set in a medieval setting, but one with magic, alchemy, dragons, and zombies. It reads a lot like the tales of King Arthur meets the Wheel of Time.
What do y'all like to read? What do y'all consider the best book/series ever?

I love reading. I am into all kinds of fiction, from all over the world, though my reading is limited. I love the books of Salman Rushdie, Ian Mc Ewan, Umberto Eco, Italo Calvino, Earnest Hemingway, Jose Saramago, Mario Vargas Llosa, Somerset Maugham, and so on....Regarding my favourite series, I have no other choice than The Lord of The Rings, which I read much before they even planned to make them into movies. I simply loved to devour every word by Tolkein. I simply couldn't believe how a single person can be the creator of an entire mythology, and was really impressed by the way he interspersed the narrative with an immense amount of contemporary knowledge and wisdom.

Have you read Eragon, by Chris Paolini? Very Tolkein-esque.

I'm into series, too. Wheel of time, dragon lance, harry potter, narnia, lord of the rings. Someone already suggested A Song of Ice and Fire but i haven't finished buying wheel of time, so i intend to buy them next. i've read my books at least twice each, if i don't have much time, i make time for my book reading. i sometimes lessen my sleeping time =0

I've actually never read Wheel of Time. A friend of mine is going to lend the series to me as soon as he gets it back from the last person he loaned it to. But I agree with you about sleeping time. It's secondary to books.

I've heard great things about that series, but I've emassed such a collection of unread books that I probably won't get to it anytime in the near future. I went a little nuts on a book swapping site, and now I've got about a year's worth of reading material stockpiled. One of my favorite fantasy serieses is the Fionavar Tapestry by Guy Gavriel Kay. I also really enjoyed Melanie Rawn's first series, and Patricia Kennealy Morrison's works as well.
Right now I'm reading a vampire novel called Mortal Companion, mostly out of curiousity because I know a family member of the author.

I know how that is. I borroed some books from a friend about 6 months ago. I went crazy at the library and got about 6 months worth of books. Now I'm finally getting around to reading my friend's books. When you find the time, you should check out Song of Ice and Fire. Maybe by the time you get around to it, Martin will have finished the series.

That sounds like a really good read! I'll have to check it out.
The Wheel of Time is one of my favorites. I'm about halfway through it, and it's very engaging.
There are two that tie for my all-time favorite series, though. The first is The Wayfarer Redemption by Sara Douglass. The second is Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier. Both are absolutely phenomenal.
