My dogs can tell when I'm getting ready to go out of town. My basset pup will jump in my siutcase when I am trying to pack. For the life of me I can't seem to get her out of there. It's like she's telling me that I better take her or not go at all. Does your dog act weird when your about to leave for a trip?

I think my dog absolutely knows when I'm leaving for a trip, or even if I'm going to leave just for the day. I think they pick up on the little things and it may be a learned response. When you get out your suitcase, she knows that your leaving will shortly follow...and she doesn't want you to go. I know my dog will get upset as soon as I pick up my keys, or when I take my coat off the hook. As soon as she hears either one of those sounds, she's circling me and barking, and if I'm not watching she will zoom out the door ahead of me. I think it just shows how much they miss us and don't want us to leave.

I have two dogs and they both know when we're leaving on a trip. they stare at me with wide eyes and a head tilt as if to say, "are we going with you?" when I reply, "no" I then get the look of despair..."why don't you love us? don't leave! we'll be good, no more eating shoes or paper towels, we swear!!!"
of course, I get this kind of response whether I am packing bags for a long trip or just my lunch box for work :)
