I wish someone could help me on this subject, see lebanon is my definition a arabic country so that makes me arabic, but when people from all over the world hear arabc they immidiatly think muslim or terrorist, so what do u think i should do, stand up for my arabic origins or just deny it ? and what is the first thought that runs through your head when u hear arabic? ( P.S. : 40-45% of the lebanese people are christians)

not stand up for it and not deny it
i know it is hard
and i too have alote of questiond that i am being asked- because i am from israel
you have to answer what you thing on the specific question you are being asked that is what i think
and if you live in lebanon and born there it does make you a lebanon girl:)
you have to be proud of it and not deny it
you don't have to agree that everything your country does is right
like i do not agree with mine
but that is what you are an arab lebanon girl
and i am israeli israel - and we both should feel good where ever we are no matter what other people think of us

My first thought when I here Arabic are of desert nomads and camels. Then Harems, Oasis, Ibn Rushd (Who translated and commentated on the works of Aristotle) haggling with street traders and Arab horses. Never deny what you are, stand up and be proud even though the world scorn you.
When I hear Lebanon, my first thought is of the beautiful trees, Cedris libani, the Cedar of Lebanon as we call them here in England.
all the best urban

Here in Egypt also, there are about 15% christian and I am one of them. you must be proud of your origin as Maronic lebanon as I am proud of my coptic origin. Both were very effective in the ancient christian organisations and both suffered much and kept faith in his real way. So, all world must respect our origins and our grandfathers as they did much to our area and took the main struggle to keep that way and we must continue their way.

Hi. I know what you are talking about. I myself has some lebanese origins. My grandma (from the maternal side) was from Lebanon. I would suggest that you never deny your origins. However, if you feel that you just don't want to be identified as an arab, then it's your choice. If you are ashamed to be an arab, maybe you don't deserve to be one (the same as who is ashamed from his country). You are not alone in that position (being an arab non muslim). Here we have christians too (I am muslim). They are part of the country. They are part of the arabic culture these days. Many poets, actors, writes are politicians are christian arabs. Even they read an arabic bible (I own one myself). I can understand that what's happening in your country maybe affecting you. You know what?? It's affecting me too. I just feel sad that a wonderful country like Lebanon be like this. But I'm sure the future of Lebanon will be better. My advice to you is that to be proud of your country and to be proud of your origins. The people who you talk about are just prejudicial. They are just repeating what they heard in the media. They didn't bother to search for themselves and you shouldn't give them your attention.

I am faced by this question all the time, and there isnt an easy way of handling it, our origin is arabs, but the way to put it is to eather say that its a meditarranian country (which many people believe so, and you now here it on t.v a lot). Or you can say European, this isnt completely true thought but i can assure you that it has some sense to it because lebanon was taken over by the frensh for 30 years i'm pretty sure and all our school are mostly frensh, everyone learns frensh at school. So why not, the people who call lebanon an arabic country have eather never faced this quetion or (in my opinion) arent lebanese, they are people from neighbouring arab countrys.
