I have to admit that I am not the best cook in the world infact I can't cook anything unless it comes out of a box. I wish that I could but I can't. I was raised by my father who idea of a meal was throughing a frozen pizza in the oven. Anyways, what I was wanting to know is, is there anyone out there that knows of a way to help me learn to cook. I am married and have kids and my husband is a better cook than I am.

Just jump right in! Cooking is actually pretty easy. The key is to use good ingredients that you like the taste of. When you start with good ingredients, you get a tasty end result.
Here's an elegant but very simple recipe for pasta lovers...Chicken and Brocoli Alfredo
8 ounces spaghetti noodles (or linguine, fettucine, any long noodle)
Get a big pot half-full of water boiling and add the pasta. After it returns to a boil, add a 16 ounce package of frozen broccoli. Cook for however long the pasta box says to cook it, and then drain well.
Put the pasta back into the pot and add about 3 tablespoons of butter, 3/4 cup of cream (or half and half, or evaporated canned milk). Stir well and then add about 3/4 cup of parmesan cheese, the green can kind is fine. Season with salt and pepper to taste...presto! a lovely pasta dinner you made all by yourself!
Good luck.. just keep cooking fun, and it can become a great joy in your life.

Too bad I left out the chicken!! I'm a silly monkey...
You can add cooked cubed chicken or a can of drained canned chicken right when you are adding the parmesan. Actually, you can add whatever you like at this point....leftover ham, sliced blac olives, canned mushrooms... get creative and make this dish your own with a favorite ingredient.

Cooking is not as hard as it may seem. All you have to do is take your time and don't leave food unattended. If you follow recipies and instructions well than you can cook. Don't let anybody tell you, you can't.

thanks for your inspiration. I am going to have to go buy a cook book. My husband is an awesome cook but I really want to learn so that I can do more for him. I can cook some things just not very many.

Since you are on the computer, I am assuming that you know how to read. If you can read and follow directions, you can follow along to any recipe that exists..... provided you have all the right ingredients. Betty Crocker is a good basic cook book with family traditional meals that would be easy to prepare. Ask your husband for help. I am sure he will be thrilled that you are wanting to learn for him and the children. The kids will look at you as a positive role model since you are tackling a new challenge that has scared you in the past. Your Father will be proud of you also. Learning to cook will be a win win situation for everyone. Learning to cook will also lower the amount of sodium that you are ingesting from prepackaged foods.
Good Luck

thank you. I have been wanting to learn to cook for sometime. I don't want my children growing up not knowing how to cook and i know that it should be my resposibility to teach them.

If you can read, you can cook. It is all about following directions. Get a simple cookbook, and start with the basics. Meatloaf, veggies and cheese sauce, spagetti, chicken. Start with recipes that are not expensive to make-don't try baked stuffed lobster (lol) Pick out 2 recipes a week, make sure you have all the ingretieants, and start early enough so that if you mess up, you can still pull something out of a box. It is all trial and error. You'll get it, and learn to love it. Nothing better than making something from nothing.
