My cat is in heat and she is driving me nuts!

What should I do. Is there anything that I can do to ease her discomfort or quiet her endless meowing? I have considered giving her a little piece of a valium to settle her down but I don't wanna give her too much and she's just a little itty bitty kitten.

Hi Sharone...please I hope you haven't given your cat any Valium as any human medications can be very lethal to cats. In all honesty the only way to stop a cat from being in heat is to have them spayed. Each time a cat goes into heat they are put at greater risk for developing mammary, uterine and ovarian cancer. Nearly all animal shelters offer low fee/free spaying. You can ring 1-800 SPAY USA http://spayusa.org to locate a nearby participating shelter to get her in sooner. Another USA list of free/low fee spay/neuter clinics: http://www.petsandanimals.org/spayneuter_services.html More about feline spay: http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_the_feline_spay.html

I know what you're going through. We brought our cat in when she was in heat because we couldn't afford to get her spayed at the time and she drove us nuts. Every time we would go outside we had to make sure she didn't get out. There really is nothing you can do I don't think except for put up with it. We kept ours in the house for a whole month straight one time and let her out when she started to calm down because we thought that she was done but as soon as we did she got pregnant. So we put up with all of that for nothing. Sorry I wish there was someway I could help but I really don't think there is anything you can do. :)

Been there! Mine torn up everything in sight and peed on everything she could. I got her fixed after her cycle. She was fine after that. Now she just meows at the birds and squirrels that sit outside the door and tease her.

She just won't shut her yap. she is meowing as I type and it is getting on my nerves. Maybe I am the one who should take the Valium!

Please consider getting your pet spayed. One visit to an animal shelter and you will NOT want your kitten getting pregnant and adding to the already overburdened animal population. And you won't have to deal with her being in heat ever again.

I do feel for you, been there and wanted a kitty valium for ours but since I didn't have that we just had to bare with it. You know it's bad when fixed male cats are trying to ease their misery and trust me mine try. I have found scratchign their back right above the tail seems to help quiet them for awhile but not long. Wish you luck.

Hows the cat? Still climbing the walls or feeling sorry for herself, but quiet?

No, sorry there is nothing you can give her. get her spayed and this will stop, otherwise it will go on every couple of weeks (can you handle it ?) and get worse, and if she keeps on going into heat without being mated, she will get into all sorts of danger, ovarian cancer, cycts etc...

Don't give her human medicine unless you have spoken to a vet! Right now there is really nothing you can do except wait until she is out of heat and then have her spayed. The operation is not very expensive to start with, and many shelters or rescue groups can give you even more discounted prices if you need them. Please get her spayed ASAP, I worked at an animal shelter once and it was just heartbreaking all the unwanted dogs and cats we had to put down just because people didn't bother to take one day to have their pets neutered. Also, it will make your cat a much better roomate, too!

I've been there with mine. Unless you plan on getting her a boyfriend, you'll have to deal with it.

We went through this last year at this time, it was horrible! We made an apointment with the neuter scooter, but had to wait two months for them to come to our town. That was the longest two months of my life! She about drove me and hubby insane. Hubby would sit and put his foot on her back right above her tale and shake, this seemed to give her relief for about an hour or so. It will not stop until she is either fixed, or gets pregnant.
