My son is 12 and many of his friends stay home alone already. My son if very mature and I beleive he can handle the responsibility but am concerned about where the law stands on this matter. I am unsure if there is a specific age or not that is considered appropriate. Any suggestions?

I don't know what state you're in but
I don't believe there are any specific
laws regarding an age when a child can
first be left home alone, within reason.
At his age you most certainly can leave
your son home alone, with a big HOWEVER.
It's his first time. Make sure he's fine
with it. Don't be gone too long the first
few times. Make sure he knows what he's
allowed and not allowed to do. Make sure
he has good contact information, for several
reasons. He may be lonely. He may get scared.
And God forbid if there's an emergency.
Make sure he's got numbers for other adults in
the house, neighbors you trust, relatives and
of course emergency numbers.
if he's mature like you say, he'll be fine.
Probably play video games, watch tv or listen
to music the whole time. And never know you're
missing.
Good luck.
