the first step would be to get yourself a guitar! second catch someone who really knows how to play the guitar well because most of the times you think you're playing well but you're actually playing really bad :P heheh

To learn to play lead:
Look for 'Scale Patterns' on the internet and practice until they are second nature
To learn Rhythm: Learn chords and practice changing between them.

I looked at this web site and found several different items for learning to play the guitar. There are some great ideas, you'll be playing the guitar before you know it.
